He was a heavyweight who fought from 1935 to 1948 and left boxing with a record of 36-20-6-14. The biggest thing that stands out was that he actually beat/upset some very good fighters of the time including Buddy Baer, Abe Simon, Lee Savold, Nathan Mann and Jack Trammel. They even referred to him as “ the spoiler.”

I know absolutely nothing of him, Magoo. But thanks for making the thread because now I will do the research. This is the primary reason I am on the Classic. Thank you

"Back in 1934, a nineteen-year-old negro giant came out of No'th Carolina to show Eastern heavyweights what fists are for. He won, according to Nat Fleischer's record book, the boxing bible, 19 out of his first 20fights.
`The kid really raised hell...Charlie Petersen, one round; George Godfrey two; Joe Gatty four; Salvatore Ruggirello, two; Jack Tramell, one; Leroy Haynes, seven; Jack Moran, one.
Something had to be done about Blunt. Something was.
After coping 19 out of twenty starts, Blunt blew two weird decisions, to Nathan Mann in New York and Red Burman in Baltimore.
I do not charge that Eddie Bluntthrew these bouts but I draw attention to these remarkable coincidences:
1-When Mann "beat" Blunt he was in the midst of an elaborate build-up campaign climaxed a few months later -surprise!-by a bout with Joe Louis for the heavyweight title.
    2-Ditto for Burman.
Circumstantial evidence convicts Blunt. He, a negro, couldn't draw peanuts against Louis. Mann and Burman, good-looking white boys, could. Joe Louis never wanted any part of a tough negro heavyweight. He never fought Blunt."
Art Cohn, Sports Editor, Oakland Tribune, February 14th, 1943.
Just a snippet, more in the same vein.

He was my cousin, and besides being an incredibly loving person, he was a beast in the ring. The family used to call him the gentle giant. I am looking for more articles and pictures of him, if anyone comes across any, please do let me know. Thank you much.
