It is basically jiu jitsu with strikes on the ground. It is essentially suuposed to be a transitionary sport for jiu jitsu guys who want to head to MMA, for them to get used to the idea of ground striking, and how strikes on the ground change the dynamic of grappling. Go to 2:25 if you want to skip the awful music and see the explanation of the sport. Go to 15:05 if you just want to see the fight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbfngqfFwJg[/ame] At first, I didn't really like the idea, but after thinking it over and seeing it in practice, it has grown on me. The only issue I see is the 3x3 round format. I think it would be better if it was just one ten minute round.
Well that was a short fight props to Eddie for trying to take Jiu Jitsu forward, cant really see it taking off as a spectator sport. Maybe he should give BJ a call though, He'd seem perfect to help the promotion get off the ground (Yes...I went there) with a few fights
It should also be noted that they plan on moving it out of a cage and onto a more traditional grappling mat.
Eddie has been pedling this 10th Planet jiu-jitsu style of his for years. He originally trained under the Machado system.
