According to a report today, Eddie Chamber vs. Kevin Johnson for the USBA heavyweight title is going to purse bid. www.fightnews.com It may not be the most entertaining fight, but to me it's an interesting matchup.
Good fight. I hope to see a little bit of fire in Eddie this time. He showed his skill vs Povetkin but failed to turn it up in the second half. Maybe we'll see so iprovement off of Povetkin:good
I don't know what it is with him. He was getting the better of the fight in the first 4 rounds or so against Povetkin including a lot of flush shots. Maybe he has stamina issues and has to pace himself. Maybe he's gun shy. Maybe he's just defensive minded. But he's got to let his hands go more because anytime he does, he hits people because of his great hand speed.
Chamber's work rate wasn't what it should have been in the second half of the Brock fight either. He didn't appear to be tired in either fight - I'm not sure why he doesn't throw more punches.
Before the Povetkin fight I would have gone with Chambers, but he was so disappointing there I think I will go with KJ by UD.
He's always been that way to some extent. It's his biggest draw back. I've been a fan of his since he was a teenager, picked him over Povetkin, and hope that he now understands he must turn it up. His defense is sick but his offense at times goes anemic. He has some pop and could take more out while winning more fights, with more volume.
I give Chambers credit. He's been taking on a lot of decent opponents back to back, and immediately after losing a tough 12 rounder to Povetkin, he's getting back in the ring with another undefeated prospect. There may yet be some hope for Chambers to develop. He's like 25 or 26 years old, and staying on the competitive track. I wish him the best..
I like Johnson and think he has the tools to do some things in the division. He might not be the most exciting fighter but he has some skills. He'll beat Chambers and move into the top 10.
Difficult to predict. Chambers is a very fast counter puncher, and hits harder than some people believe. He's defensively sound. But his workrate is inadequate, especially in later rounds. Johnson has a height and reach advantage, and has a very quick jab, although it's not a powerful jab. He too is sound defensively. But he has very little power for a man his size. He looks great against tomato cans, but how will he do against a good fighter like Eddie? Seems evenly matched to me.
This is a bad fight for Eddie so soon after his loss to Povetkin. He could have done with a confidence building tune-up and I can see Kingpin jabbing his way to a wide points win.
True, but the flipside of that could be that its an opportunity for Chambers to redeam himself and get right back on the fast track. I have to give Chamber's handlers credit. They're keeping him busy and fixing him up with quality opposition. If America is ever going to see another good heavyweight, this is how the young prospects need to be brought along. I don't think that Chambers is the man who's going to bring America back into the heavyweight picture, but the same kind of principles are what needs to be applied to all of the young prospects coming up. In my opinion, modern American hopfuls are protected for way too long, and consequently, they lose their best years. Chaz Witherspoon for example is 26 years old, unbeaten in 22 fights, and a philadelphia raised fighter who is related to a former world champion. At this point, he should be getting tested by better fighters, but continues to face poor journeyman. If a young athlete is ever going to improve, he needs to be challenged at some point.
Eddie should move to Cruiserweight or Light Heavy, he has fast hands and I'm sure his punch would be harder in the lower weights.
I know where you are coming from and I agree with you, but you never know how a fighter is going to respond after his first loss, and this looks a very risky fight for Chambers. Two defeats in a row would be a big blow for him.
