Eddie Cotton should be FIRED!

Cotton was trying to give Banks the benefit of the doubt but he did misjudge things and as a result Banks took a bad thumping. Those kind of KO's are career damaging to say nothing of diminishing one's brain more rapidly.

 

Exactly! This was the BEST stoppage I have seen in a long time. However, some of these modern boxing fans would actually cheer an early stoppage. It's unbelievable. Fights should go to their natural conclusion, and that's exactly what Cotton allowed to happen. He should be SALUTED, not criticized.

 

I dident think it was that bad myself.

Basically. The proof of the error was in the Griffith/Paret-esque combination that Banks needlessly took at the very end. He wasn't ready. He was walking along the ropes with his back turned to the opponent - out already, before Cotton propped him up for another savaging.

 

I thought he did pretty good.Bnaks went off on his shield........sure he''ll be sleeping there for 2 weeks but oh well...

Thats just how north american refs roll. I had no problems with the way the ref acted. And I've seen guys that hurt come back to win. I would have had no problem with him stopping the fight befor the second knock down but a part of me would have been diapointed banks wasn't given a chance in a competitive championship level fight.

 

Violence doesn't bother me, sugar tits. Bad calls do. "TENNIS" is full of bad calls. Horrible advice.

 

well, it was a good call. its a world title fight, and the fight was close. youre just a *****

 

i think banks was ko'd from that first knockdown. I cant remember him wanting to go back in- which would help the argument for the continuation of the fight. he was all over the place from what i remember.

 

Well in Cotton's defense sort of, He's probably never seen Banks before. He probably tried to give Banks the benefit of the doubt because he doesn't have a clue as to how Banks may respond to being hurt. Some fighters bounce back strong from being knocked down, others crumble. Cotton probably didn't even know who Banks was before he got the assignment and was probably trying to give the kid a chance.

That turned out to be an epic fail, as the kids say these days.

He was on his feet. As far I am concerned if he's on his feet, unless he is wobbling all over the place, the fight should continue. Period. In the old days, refs weren't afraid of letting fights go to their natural conclusion. It is refreshing to see that there are at least a few modern refs who have this attitude - the attitude that made the fight game GREAT.
