I was flipping some old RING mags around and I came across this from Eddie Futch.

Lewis is at the head of the class. he has the equipment to be successful. He has the right height, reach, and power to win in the division. He will soon be the number one heavyweight in the world.

Lewis should use his jab and set up his opponents with combonations. he can use a good hook off the jab. In his last fight with [Frank] Bruno, I thought he was losing big, and then he hit Bruno with a big left hook and won the fight. He could utlize his uppercut better. He needs to make use of his jab, it will allow him to set up his big shots better. I think that now he is training with Emanuel, he will be polishing him up better.

Lewis has a good left hand. He is a big man, maybe not big enough, I would like to see him bigger, but no bigger then 245, he would be better off at that weight. He will have more mobility. I think that Lewis will beat Tyson if they fight, all he would have to do is keep Mike in the center of the ring, I think he knocks him out.

Lewis would beat Holyfield too. He's to fast and has to much equipment for Holyfield. Lewis has fair defensive skills, but his chin isnt too great, I dont like the way he reacts to some shots. But he has the best jab in the division, and that will keep most guys away from his chin. In time he will be the number one man, and could stay there for awhile.

damn, talk about a guy knowing his sh*t. Keep in mind this was only four year into Lewis' career. I love the part about his chin, kept in mind it would be for another couple of years before McCall whacked Lewis. the guy was right on with Lewis. Makes Steward look like a no nothing.

Futch is a legend for a reason.

    Astounding analysis here.

He hit it on almost every point. I dont think that more then 5 people would have picked Lewis to beat tyson back then.

    For good reason!

That Tyson 1993 (talking basically about pre-1991 Tyson) would have put Lewis out on his back.

I mean damn. Oliver McCall cracked him with a textbook overhand right. That is one of Tyson's best punches. Add his mobility and footspeed in there and no way Lewis wins.

Lewis has a win over a very faded Tyson. And we'll leave it at that.

I wonder what Futch would have had to say about Klitscho?

I really miss that old guy. I met him at Grosingers (sp) when he was training Bowe in upstate New York. What a legend.

You know, I think he would come up with a very similar assessment of Wladimir Klitschko.

Damn, I love Futch and all but I cannot see Lewis beating prime Tyson...just cant see it..there will be a moment of chaos..I just dont think Lennox could handle that..Had he possesed greater chin..then its a different story. And if Lewis aint big enough, how big does he want him geez

    Great analysis nonetheless..

This was 93. Tyson was no longer prime, and Lennox did indeed pummel Mike Tyson when they eventually fought. Everything he said was spot on.

It's scary how on the money his analysis was.

    Futch mentioned:
The height, reach, and power of Lewis - so Wlad doesn't have these attributes?
Weight of no more than 245 - I'd say that's about accurate for Wladimir as well
Hooking off the jab - nobody does it better than Wlad
Best jab in the division - yup
Shaky chin - yup yup yup

Similar points across the board though I don't want this to become a Wladimir Klitschko thread.
