In his book,The Ghosts Of Manilla,author Mark Kram says that he did n't have the heart to tell Joe Frazier that Futch would n't include him in his all time top 5 heavyweight list. Does anyone know who Eddie would include in that list ? I would make a more than educated guess that Ali,Louis and Johnson would have been included.
"I'd rank Ali with Joe Louis and Jack Johnson as the three greatest heavyweights of all time.Maybe I'm prejudiced because I came along with Louis, but I think he would have beaten Ali. People remember how hard Louis punched ,what they don't remember is what a good boxer he was. I always thought Joe would have seen the flaws in Ali's style and been able to take advantage of them. And, being such a great defensive fighter ,Jack Johnson might have beaten Ali too .But Ali was great, ;no doubt about it. It was a privilege to be in boxing during his time." Eddie Futch .
