Kind of curious to know how people generally feel about Hearn here. Will include a vote... speak your mind
He isn't perfect, no promoter is. But he managed AJ's career well. Bellew, Crolla and others have done well too. He seems to be the only promoter who has embraced social media and seems accessible to the fans. His Sky Cards have been poor this year though
Brit haters are jealous of him because he does such a good job. Wilder would love to have Hearn as his promoter/manager but would never admit it. P.s. Im not a Brit.
Mixed feelings: He's clearly a great promoter and has revitalised British boxing, through shear hard work and charisma. And yeah there's a likeable side to him. But he's arrogant and smug too, and is letting his ego take over. The DAZN deal was the tipping point where in his own mind it seems, he has become the product rather than the salesman. It's becoming the Eddie Hearn show and this is what he has to watch out for. He's nothing without AJ on the global stage. Zip.
He's good at what he does. He's media savvy, knows how to use social media to his advantage and for a fighter who perhaps doesn't have much personality and charisma he's a good representative to get your name heard as he's always good for an interview or a sound bite. He's also the most forward thinking promoter right now, nobody else looked to break into streaming like he has and it's pretty clear from all other media that's the direction we are heading in. But he's also had his fair share of luck. Nobody expected Froch/Groves to be as good as it was and result in such a huge rematch that seemed bigger than boxing in UK. Signing AJ was the best move he ever made, honestly Joshua is a marketing dream. No Brit ever had a platform like he did to turn pro, honestly anyone could of promoted him and he'd be a star right now, maybe not as big as he is now but he was always going to be a big draw in the UK, with the Olympic gold in London, the way he looks and fights and how he deports himself. Hearn also is like any other promoter, he's out for himself and out to make the most money he can. Luckily for us to him that means putting on good shows. He's not scared of taking the odd risk with a fighter if the financial reward makes sense, but he doesn't do it for altruistic reasons, he's doing it because that's what makes him the most money, pure and simple. And no he's not going to save boxing, boxing doesn't need saving it's doing pretty damn good at the moment. If he wanted to save boxing he'd be looking to change the sport and make it more unified and professional instead of just trying to cash in like everyone else.
Dashingly handsome 1950s matinee idol good looks. Check Rich and successful. Check Charming and urbane. Check Gift of the gab. Check Great sense of humour. Check E-Hearn is basically the James Bond of boxing
How come he's not been able to duplicate the same skill in the U.K. There's nothing special about Hearn, he just has the privilege of promoting in boxing craze country. Brits will will still be obsessed with Joshua if were under a different promoter. I will give him respect if he manages to turn Danny Jacob into a semi draw. That's not asking for much.
He's a snake oil salesman but they all are and he's one of the best at it. For me it's his work with people like Masher Dodd, Rocky Fielding, Anthony Crolla, Dillian Whyte and guys like that I really like about him. They put in some good performances on his shows and he backs them a bit and gives them work. He even tried with Dave Allen!
Agreed, but I wonder if he's about to lose this side to him? After all he wasn't in Germany for Fielding... he was in the states for DAZN. It would be a pity if he delegates that side now and loses touch with his grassroots stable....
The good quality about him is that he is realistic what future holds if he fails at what he is doing. He has said, that he might be out of boxing game in 5 years, if his US journey isn't successful and when his SKY deal runs out.
