It is pretty worrying to be honest, it's not good for ALL of boxing when an American world champion is not known amongst the general public. What does boxing need in the US to put it back on the public map?

I wonder if those guys would have known who Canelo is? Because if they don't then clearly they just have no interest in boxing and prob couldn't name anyone from any major sport.

There is a lot of competition for "stardom" in the United States, most boxers don't get that sort of favor. Floyd did because he was willing to put himself out there, he crossed over, he was the best for a long period of time, etc. Most common people couldn't name any boxer outside of Manny, Floyd, and old guys. No different than any other niche sport, you have to be Tiger Woods, Floyd Mayweather, Ronaldo, etc to get any real recognition. Did he ask the same people if they knew Anthony Joshua?

They just couldn't understand his accent. Thought he was an Australian.

To be fair, most Americans don't know who George Washington was never mind Deontay Wilder.

These Wilder fanboys can't seem to wait a few months for an AJ fight, yet conveniently forget the 8 years we've all been waiting for Wilder to step-up.

    Still waiting...

They wouldn't have...now far more people know Canelo than would know Wilder, but to be the world wide star and draw that Canelo is, you'd be shocked how little he would be known to your regular American.

It's a disgrace Americans don't know who George Washington is! Wilder just fought him Earlier this year.
