Eddie Hearn, Conor Benn and the poison at the heart of British boxing

im a bit late reading this but really interesting and damning article by Donald McRae on drugs in boxing.
I’m really starting to think pretty much all the boxers are doping at some level but this article needs answering.

I can sort of understand that promoters are forced to use dopers on their shows but this goes well beyond that, it’s basically saying that Hearn helps facilitate the fighters to get round the rules.
Also accuses him of lying about his relationship with Victor Conte.

I still don’t understand how they were allowed to not inform Rivas and his team that whyte had failed a drugs test.

I’m not a prude but this makes boxing look like a joke.
Can you imagine any other sport except perhaps cycling to get away with all this?

“Eddie is one of the most arrogant human beings I’ve ever met. I’m 69 and been in the business over 30 years and I’ve never met a guy who more people at the highest levels dislike.” Blimey that’s a strong statement.

Everybody is in the juice man.

The quicker you realize that the less you care.

Just because not all get caught it doesnt mean much.

There are many skilled doctors and they typically take a blood sample from the boxer/athlete to find out where the limit is.

We humans are different and some can consume quite a lot of illegal drugs without being tested positive.

Excellent article, not too many surprises but exposes Hearn for the hypocrite we all know he is.

Well as usual this really comes down to. Do you, the punter want to watch the best of the best, supermen pulling off inhuman feets built lad Greek statues or would you rather watch 1880’s level boxing on HD TV? Every top level fighter has probably been on the gear since the 60’s. That’s the reality.

I can imagine a boxing World without peds where prime Ricky Hatton has to defend his welterweight World title at a 15 stone catchweight blowing out of his arse after 2 rounds. You want ‘roids out of boxing? Well that’s the standard you’d get.

I refuse to believe that the likes of Eubank and Calzaghe were on the gear, they were just supremely dedicated and skilful pro's

“Conte says Hearn texts him for information. “It’s happened a few times when Eddie says: ‘Tell me about dianabol.’ I say: ‘Well, it was invented in the 1950s when the US weightlifting team was trying to combat the Russians, who were using testosterone. It’s very hepatotoxic, bad for the liver, an oral, very androgenic.’ A day or two later, bam. I realise one of Eddie’s fighters tested positive for dianabol.’”

That’s the most important part of the piece those with rose tinted glasses should take from the article. From the 1950’s, the elite, the best of the best have been on ‘roids to get to the top.

Mad thing is Rugby is rife with drugs but NEVER gets bad press for it as they rarely make a fuss and debate it.

If the FANS still buy ppvs for drug cheats, the promoters and managers are being told directly that the fans don’t care about drug cheats boxing, and will act accordingly.

“guilty or innocent is not the issue here koogs”

Of course. In Rugby the average weight for a player has increased by 14kgs in 25 years despite doing more or less the same training.

He should now follow this up with a similarly lengthy piece about the BBBoC. What a disaster that place is.
