Eddie Hearn defends PPV in interview with Boxing News

I'd argue the big difference between premier league and boxing, for a start they buy the rights in 3 year chunks and the cost is pretty fixed whereas for boxing you'll have mostly Saturday fight nights with relatively low purses but you also have potential mega fights a la froch groves 2 where they need the extra cash from somewhere and they probably won't get it from ad revenues, would much rather pay PPV than them jacking up the sky sports subscription £2-3 a month to help finance a PPV calibre show or two - at least PPV will give me an option whether to buy (froch groves 2) or not (Saturday's abomination). But they did have PPV for football, £40 for the season or £6 a game but they lost that package when the rights split up

Back to this interview, disappointed they didn't ask why they had ads on in between, always thought part of the deal with a PPV was no ads, unless the buys prior to fight night were that off target they had to make it up somewhere, besides the only thing that could cripple sky sports really is bt sport

 

Factor in all the promo costs - organising pressers, booking venues, adverts, the behind the gloves thing - there's cost associated with all that which eats into the profit.

 

Of course, without doubt there are extra costs other than fighters purses, but still, Sky + Matchroom will probably come out with almost £1m each I bet

 

I pay top whack for Sky to be able to watch these things..it shouldnt be EXTRA.
The card was ****.
I paid for it as a treat for my son who was home for the weekend from working away...i knew it was a **** card and it was even ****per than i thought.
The main event was utter garbage.
Pay per view should only ever be for absolute Top of the world fights that come along once in a while...
Tony Bellew is a total joke...never has and never will be any good.
As for Cleverley he was just plain dissapointing.
As for Hearn...well what do you expect him to say ?
I liked him at first, but now he has very quickly become a patronising smart alec.

 

Fickle bunch on here you lot were raving about Eddie as the new saviour of boxing ..said all along that he's a snake
