did anyone actually hear in the post fight interview eddie hearn snaked brook out big time. His tongue slipped and said amir is willing to fight. hearn sold brook out.
Khan has OTHER pay days out there because he is a bigger name. Brook literally has one last roll of the dice to get in a big pay day before calling it quits or resuming fighting the Rabchenkos and Frankie Gavins of this world. The ironic thing is that Khan is probably more shot than Brook but because he is carefully matched and still active, he can keep the momentum going. Brook is stop/start/beg at the moment.
Both are to blame. Hearn wanted to make Brook a PPV star over here and promised him the big names of the division but delivered none of them. All the money at 147 was and still is in America but they wouldn't go over. Got to the point where Brook wanted that big money fight and GGG popped up due to Eubank taking a huge duck. Do you think Brook would have taken that fight of he had been facing to fights at 147? I really don't think so. Shame as he could have been in some big fights but he chose to stay at home and claim nobody would fight him.
Hearn does have his part to play as the promoter in the blame. Unfortunately for Brook everytime an opportunity presented it something came up. Alexander fight, first Alexander pulled through injury then when it got rescheduled Brook pulled out, Alexander then was meant to fight khan, Khan pulled that to fight Floyd, didn't get the fight and Porter took advantage, Porter then dropped it to Brook but the Alexander fight was scheduled for Feb 2013 and Brook didn't win the belt till Aug 14 so there's a good 18 months that could have been world level fights that ended up being Carson Jones II, Robles and Senchenko. In reality he could have fought Alexander, Porter, Malignaggi(if we go by the route the IBF took) and then had a fight in place of Porter. Again Brook holds the IBF and is meant to fight Chaves, this was after they couldn't make a fight with Bradley but either way those fights are 1 or 2 on Brooks record as it stands. Didn't end up having either as he got his leg chopped up and ended up fighting Frankie Gavin instead and his mandatory in Bizier being called. That takes you to the GGG fight, considering Khan fought Canelo at the same time this is the perfect time to then make this fight, better negotiations, Brook has a better standing, it would have been a far bigger fight here and neither need to sacrifice themselves to the middleweights to make their fight bigger. Essentially if they had played their hands better Brooks run could have and should have played out like: Alexander Porter Malignaggi Dan Bradley Bizier Khan Spence Now obviously he would have to keep winning and that's not a given but how much better is that than what Brook ended up doing and that was ultimately a run that could have been made.
This is a good post. Ultimately Brook was avoided when he was at his peak because he didn't bring the money, now since GGG he can make the money but will probably be beaten by the top fighters.
I liked it when Golovkin smashed his orbital bone with one punch. People think taking that fight was brave of Brook, but not really, he was so arrogant he thought he could 'out slick' and even out punch Golovkin, full of his own hype, idiotic British sport scientists pumping him full of garbage too. And they clearly had a plan to pull him at the first sign of trouble and play the 'me just welter' card. It was a premature stoppage by the corner under any other conditions, he was never going to fight to the end like some 'warrior', thus it was dishonest to everyone, while he raked in millions. They disrespected Golovkin, really, thinking they could just move up and take him apart, and that was why it was funny when GGG just had a 'streetfight' and smashed Brook like he was nothing, just a bothersome, uppity little weirdo.
You cannot blame matchroom orn brook for.his career. What the casuals here don't understand is that the offers where made to the other champs but there was just not enough money in the pot to tempt them to the table. Thurman didn't want brook that's a fact his team didn't want a high risk fight. He was avoided and there was nothing matchroom or brook could do. The only person who agreed to f8ght was Jesse Vargas but the brexit fiasco put the money on the table to the drain. Could brook of taken b side and little money yes but he didn't want to as he was champ. Out of frustration he took GGG fight only because he was out of 'the ring for months and was nearly 180ibs++ I agree with most it was a bit of.botb to blame but mostly nobody wanted such a high risk fight when they earning and going there own route.
Spot on....a mixture of really bad luck and really bad management has ruined the best UK boxer of a generation... I know for a fact Brook and his team and Thurmans team wanted to make that fight after he beat Porter but Hearn flat out blocked it to fight a couple of bums...Even if he had been beat by Thurman there were plenty of other fights to make at that time,147 division was on fire ...I felt back then Brook could have cleared up the WW division but now i just think its probably time to pack it in....I fear for his heath to be honest
Brook wasn't avoided he just never went out there to get the fights. His entire division was in America and it was arrogance to expect them to come over here.
Another bit of mismanagement imo was going after the IBF. Obviously it was the path of least resistance but why on earth would somebody as big as Brook go after the belt with more hydration restrictions? Either way it's a shame but I'm sure he doesn't care as his a millionaire but again it's us the fans who miss out.
He didn't demand a fight with Golovkin. He took it at the last minute due to Eubank Snr blowing the fight for his son. With hindsight, it was the wrong decision. But you've got to give him huge credit for taking the fight. In my opinion, he should never have fought Spence when he did. But again, he deserves huge credit for doing so. It's nonsense saying that he's never targeted top any top WW's apart from Khan, when he's fought Spence and Porter. And he gave it is all against Spence. Do you realise how hard it must have been for him to lose at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, in front of his own fans? Give the guy some respect. And if he'd have beaten Spence and was still able to comfortably make WW, then I don't see why he wouldn't have targeted Thurman etc. Regarding a fight with Khan, it's clearly Khan who doesn't want it. The only thing I agree with you on, is that he hasn't lived the life that he should have done out of the ring.
Bradley, Rios, Chaves and Vargas unification, these are all the fight kell turned down. He didn’t want to take risks till it was too late, he did have some bad luck with the stabbing. I don’t know man, a lot of stuff is brooks fault it’s just Eddie Hearn is taking liberties with this Khan situation. He betrayed Brook in my opinion when it comes to the situation that is.
The fact that he took the Golovkin fight shows you how frustrated he was after he'd beaten Porter. Fights against Dan and Bizier were mandatories. He was never going to be able to fight a guy like Manny. It wasn't viable.
He had big offers to the likes of Broner, Garcia and Vargas turned down The only fight I know of Brook not taking was the Bradley fight Which fights should he have taken?
