Whilst I can’t stand the man when he is being sneaky, I have to admit the way he handles his fighters and their opponents is admirable as far as promoters go. David Avanyesan’s manager said Eddie covered the cost of their camp and gave extra on top despite the cancelled fight with josh kelly. Brandon cook said Eddie still paid him despite two fights in a row falling apart against Eddies fighters. You gotta admit Eddie actually tries to be fair, he isn’t perfect of course, when he is looking after his investments he spreads lies and propaganda but compared to Frank, Oscar and Bob he definitely is less shady. What do you think?
It’s a bit like being the tallest midget in the circus or being the most honest of the carnival barkers
Of course he isn’t perfect but if you see someone do a good act you gotta praise them for that act just like you would criticise them when they do something wrong. He could of easily left Avanyesan with nothing or cook with nothing but he compensated them for the fact that his fighters didn’t make the date.
Fair enough and I agree with you. But my reply was more in response to and in line with your thread title. If you’re looking to shine the light on Eddie’s good deeds your title is working against you...
I can only go by what I read, the interviews he does which I legitimately enjoy, and how I see him do is job... but to me he is the best promoter Ive seen do it and I genuinely dont get the hate he recieves lol. But thats just me... maybe Im missing some key facts that hes done that makes him an exceptional slimeball or something.
You think he is better than Don King? He is clearly a better person than don king who is most likely the biggest pos who has promoted but in terms of promoting and making the fights we want king really gave us some stacked cards and didn’t mind mixing up his top guys.
He got genuinely emotional and choked up talking about bellew after the usyk fight. When was the last time a promoter legit cared enough about a fighter to actually get choked up when they get ko'd.
Frank Warren is a POS who has ****ed over loads of fighters over the years with his shady business dealings. I have no idea how you can hate Hearn but think he's somehow alright. Hating both potentially makes sense but liking Frank and hating Eddie makes no sense whatsoever.
You can tell he really is overjoyed when his fighters win. To be fair I think him and Tony have a good relationship.
I can’t stand warren for different reasons to Hearn, Hearn doesn’t give a crap about the fans only his fighters and his pockets, Warren doesn’t give a crap about anyone, he would probably throw his sun under the bus if he was pushed.
Kings top form was before my time... so I never really got to see what the big deal was. I do think its hard to compare the cards and consistency in quality fights from his day to today... I feel the business model has changed while also being more fractured today, making it a bit harder to do what he did. But I could be wrong of course. I started watching boxing around 2001... so since then, even if I include King, he is imo the best (maybe Im being biased as hes the only likeable promoter Ive ever seen) but when I say best I mean total package. Sidenote The rest of the bunch quite literally come off so sleezy most of them would fit right in as caricatures mafia movies lol. Cracks me up.
Most on this forum seem to despise him, large portion of people see success and immediately become resentful, especially when he’s a bit of a ‘lad’ Very successful businessman is general but you can’t knock him as a promoter, how many top fighters have we seen over the years who’s careers have been severely hampered by inactivity? Say what you want about match making etc but at least he gets his guys out regularly and often delivers big fights/title shots
Oh i definitely wasn’t young enough to see kings matchmaking live but when you see the footage of the fights he put on its very impressive and he was quite prolific at it. To be fair Haymon looks after his guys a lot in terms of giving them nice checks but as he isn’t anywhere to be seen. Hearn is actually on the front line.
