He does seem to be good to work for Very few fighters badmouth him in regards to how they are treated or paid
Can remember Chris Eubank being very complimentary about father Hearn. He was saying how Hearn didn't treat him like a piece of meat. Guess that passed along to fast Eddie.
No one can work with Eubank and his father; they were unrealistic with his talent and earning potential. Don’t get me wrong I like Eubanks display of confidence and self-worth but it’s give and take, you have to give some control away even if you wanna be mostly your own man. Try and strike a balance. They were all take.
I agree. I am a New Zealander with no reason to give props to Hearn. But I think he's the best by far. Without him I think the UK scene would be less than half as good....
Hearn's like any promoter is a businessman first and foremost and sometimes you can tell he's being less than forward with the truth of a situation. But his one redeeming factor is he does seem to care about his fighters beyond a purely professional, business level. He does't just see them as a commodity to be used and discarded when used up. He gave Tom Little a fight and payday vs David Price soley because he'd screwed Little over by giving Dinu a shot at Miller when Little had been preparing to fight Dinu and spent money on training camp, travel and accommodation. Hearn didn't have to do that but he knew he'd screwed Little and Little wasn't happy about it so gave him a payday and a chance vs Price. He also is willing to keep giving fighters paydays even when they lose. Takam has fought on 2 Matchroom cards since losing to Joshua. Even after he lost to Chisora he got another payday and will likely keep getting chances if he's willing to fight and gives a good account of himself. Povetkin after fighting Joshua said he'd be working with Matchroom in his future fights. Clearly he was treated well and sees he can keep making money and be treated well with Matchroom. Brook lost twice but Hearn still signed Khan to try and make Brook/Khan. He hasn't discarded Brook and still can see a future for him involving big fights even though he's without a title.
To sum it up we diss and boo hearn for the occasional mismatches and fights that we want and dont get but in the grand scheme of things Hearn has made some huge fights and has taken british boxing to the next level, i enjoy watching most matchroom cards and eddie despite the hate eddie is a good promoter
If I was a fighter I would be with Hearn all day long, never seen any of his fighters badmouth him . They all seem to get paid and he sorts other fighters out like other posters have mentioned. Warren’s top fighters he has massively overplayed. I also bet he’s regretting the Degale and BJS money right now, Fury might just pay off.
I like Hearn. Also Kalle Sauerland. Both seem stand-up guys who don't rip off their fighters and bring fights fans want to see.
I'd say he's just the most charming and sociable. His 'acts of generosity' are not much different to some corporation making token gifts to improve their image. Whenever you find yourself falling for his nice guy act, just remember he put his own countryman David Allen, still a novice, in with Ortiz, a highly dangerous fighter he was keeping away from AJ. And he paid Allen peanuts to get smashed up. Allen suffered pretty serious injuries in that fight. People claim this was giving Allen opportunity when in fact Allen had enough attributes to be developed slowly like so many of their boxers and match-ups like this would be considered dangerous mismanagement of fighters with large investments behind them.
He put David Allen with Ortiz because David Allen wanted the fight, same with Kell Brook and GGG. If Eddie thinks the money is good enough and you want it he won’t stop it. However look how he spared Eggington when they offered him 200k to fight Garcia and Eggington wanted it too but Eddie said no and got him to fight Malinaggi, Gavin instead which were much more winnable fights. He also has given Dave loads of chances what do you think Bob arum would have done when Dillian first beat Dave? He would of discarded him but Eddie got Dave a commonwealth shot twice.
