Fury is the toughest stylistic match up in the world for Wilder, so I mean there's that. This is the fight to be nervous about, Wilder could definitely lose this fight.
Dillian Whyte will be playing his part in this. He won’t want a lively opponent in December if he’s getting the Joshua fight in April. This will mean that Hearn isn’t comfortable planning the Chisora fight, if he then needs Whyte for April, but Whyte loses. There’s more than one moving part to this thing.
You could then argue that Chisora would be a worthy challenger if he beat Whyte, the domestic fans would be well up for seeing Chisora getting his chance after beating Takam and then Whyte. He would be no less deserving than what Molina or Breazeale were
I respectfully disagree. I saw nothing in Furys comeback fights against Seferi and Pianetta to suggest he poses any kind of threat to Wilder. As evidenced by some recent results in the states, Fury will either have to KO or box Wilders head off for the vast majority of the 12 rounds to get the decision. Wilders been out boxed a number of times before landing his Hail Mary and I don't ever recall him being behind on the cards at the time of the stoppage.
There is all this as well, nicely done old boy. I feel Hearn is just wanting to return the favor after how much of a headache Warren, Fury, Wilder & his team made for Eddie trying to sell Joshua vs Povetkin.
Realistically other than wilder and fury, who else is aj actually gonna fight? dillian whyte who he's already beaten?
While I agree there is no reason negotiations can't take place after the Fury fight, what Hearn is doing does happen. Fights are agreed to all the time when one fighter already has one on the way. You hear commentators saying so & so has big fight lined up barring they get through the challenge today frequently enough over the years that it's not that uncommon of a practice.
True, but I think it’s not just about deserving a shot, but also about selling the fight. We know that Hearn wants April to be huge, given that he’s got permission to seat over 100k for April. It’s clearly designed for Wilder. However, Whyte wouldn’t be so bad. Nowhere near a Wilder fight, but still. However, dropping to Chisora, regardless of his run, will be a tough sell.
Fury didn’t set the world on fire against Christian Hammer ... and in his next fight he boxed Wlad’s ears off. Holyfield got knocked around the ring by Bobby Czyz, a middleweight-turned-light-heavy, in his fight before dismantling Mike Tyson. Don’t be too fast to judge.
The timing is right for AJ v Wilder in April. Wilder's negotiating position will likely be much stronger though after the Fury fight so it's difficult to see a deal being reached before then. If Wilder goes lineal, I think his crew will push hard for 50/50. So perhaps that's the strategy - get Wilder to sign on the dotted line before then so it doesn't have to be 50/50. I still think Wilder's camp would want in the order of 55/45 to do a deal now. A flat fee is just silly when Parker got 33-35%. Wilder brings a lot more to the table than Parker did. He's the longest reigning alphabet h/w champ, he's got the WBC belt, will have the lineal championship if he beats Fury & he'll attract more American ppv & media interest than anyone else. Saying "Wilder doesn't deserve it" is irrelevant. AJ needs to make the fight & claim his scalp. That puts Wilder in a very strong negotiating position whether Fast Eddie is willing to admit it or not. For his own heavyweight championship credentials & legacy, AJ needs the fight. Why wait years to become an ATG when he can do it next fight?
It's clear the Hearn's dont want the fight til 2020 and there is no end to the amount of bull**** that will come from Eddie to stall the fight.
Not our concern really, we're fans of the sport not purses. Hearn is having Joshua duck Wilder denying us the match-up.
