The bout is scheduled for October right?? A bit far down the line.
Eddie is quite smart so how about this: Barker has no intention of fighting Martinez, its all hype to raise his non-existent profile stateside. Everyone is now thinking, wow who is this kid challenging the best Middleweight on the planet?? Lets google him, lets youtube him, whats he all about?? Then a couple weeks before fight night he pulls out with an injury but by then he would have been promoted all over the World, then he can fight a dude like Chavez, Pirog etc etc

    Thoughts?

I don't think that is matchroom's style to be honest, they seem to stick to their word - i.e. Gavin Rees and the EBU title.

the plan was for Barker to have another defence of his EBU title before going for a world title. Well he's got his world title shot, forget about the bull**** ABC title this is the Ring and Lineal Championship he is fighting for.

Far better than the rest of those joke straps.

I don't think that will happen but it's not a ludicrous theory. That stuff does happen in boxing, guys sign for fights they know won't come off. I reckon Barker will take the fight though. He's been waiting for this long enough.

I think it's abit of both, the fight is a slim possibility and it gets Barkers name out there.

Hearn was doing the same mentioning Froch wants a fight with Hopkins, though that was more promotion for the UK market due to the Calzaghe connection.

Another conspiracy follower.DiBella has said it's a done deal and when HBO signs off on it they will sign in the next day or so.
This fight will take place as scheduled, pending HBO's approval.:good

I'm more interested to see what Matchroom do after Barker gets his ass handed to him on his US debut

I'll be supporting our lad but does anyone believe he has any chance??

Or maybe Barker just wants to fight for the world Middleweight title and make a bit of wedge as well?

Just throwing it out there, obviously its far off but seen it happen b4. Looks as if it is the real deal, fair play to Matchroom and Di Bella getting it sorted. An unbelievable bout to be honest.

I don't see this as a manoevre on Hearn's part at all to land something else. Realistically it would be easier to just make a fight with one of the other belt holders then make one with the highest prestige fighter of the division and work back from there.

Whatever, Barker is going to be in deep deep water in this bout so good luck to him, going to be a decent pay day well earnt.
