I'm neither yank nor Brit but I think the animosity is pretty even on the forum, maybe even slightly more on the Brit side.

I do agree with this thread though, shaunster. Boxing is still a popular sport in Europe, whereas it is a niche sport in the North America. There are a few hotbeds - Quebec, for instance - but it is mostly glossed over, outside of a few superfights. Broner is NOT a big name in American sport, unlike Ricky Burns, who would be interviewed on networks such as SKY in UK; you would not see Broner on a show like PTI in the States, for example.

Brits are definitely great at supporting their guys, have to say. But sports in America is not as much about "going out to support" as it is sitting in front of a TV. In the UK, it would be worth my time to go see the Liverpool game at Anfield (because of atmosphere etc) and I would have to pay to get the game anyway. But in US there is not the same tribal loyalty to clubs/fighters etc. - people would just as much stay home and watch it on the tele for free. In MLB, for instance, Toronto might not be able to draw many fans, but there's a lot of people watching across the country (and in Toronto) because the game is free on TV.

Just some insight from a guy who has been to a lot of these places.

Is it an unfair comparison when our biggest fights our on PPV? Sure, people tune in to watch the Klitschko's for free. That's not really the same, though, is it?

The biggest money is still in the US at the highest level.

They may want to fight in Vegas or Madison Square Garden but thats it, 2 places, LV annd NY....do you actually think people want to fight in front of **** crowds in Oakland or Atlantic City? :rofl

rees fought broner in the usa because like many american fighters....he refused to leave his country! just like many that went before him.

Pretty sure Sam Soliman threw a wrench in that theory recently.

He won it! I am german and even Sturm said that his fight was crap!
Also the stats of the fight show that Soliman won it! Except the knock down Sturm showed nothing good! He was too reserved in this fight!
