Can't quite understand where your coming from Billy , A promoters job is to get the best fights possible , and the chance of unifing titles has to be up there , but you suggest he should of ducked him because he's a southpaw ,, I would suggest if he ducked him he did'nt deserve the shot . You say he was the second greatest to come out of scotland , and under you he performed ,, yet you never taught him to fight a southpaw , did you just duck them .. You say he has a great boxing iq ,, but publicly state he should dodge southpaws , and his promoter is wrong for getting him a big fight with titles because the opponent is a southpaw . Personaly i just think his best days are well behind him , Eddie has got him a decent fight and he just was'nt good enough. You also come across has bitter he left you , and are loving to run around saying I told them so , I told them so .. The only thing you have left out is ,, It would'nt of happened if he was still with me . Maybee he left you because he thought he had reached the limit of your potential has a trainer ,, because after all did'nt teach him to fight a southpaw did you
Excuse me but I think you'll find Ricky beat all the southpaws other than Crawford who is an exception whilst with me, my point is simply high class southpaws give Ricky problems he knows it Eddie knows it, I don't intend it has a criticism it's just a fact
So he beats all southpaws he fights except one ,under you , and you don't think he should fight a southpaw for a world title , because he is'nt good enough , to fight a good southpaw , but yet you say he's the second greatest boxer to come out of scotland.. What is it , he's the second greatest boxer , with a great boxing iq , when he's under you , or he can't beat a decent southpaw , so he should duck them .. Mate , give it a rest , the green eyed monster is coming out , and it takes away from your good work with him , facts are facts , he's actually limited technicly , and his best days are gone , He's done well to still be in the mix at this stage, but he's just seen better days , it happens to us all .
Ricky is limited I could name a dozen quality boxers from the UK that would laugh at your statement mate I've said Ricky is a great fighter which he is, please name me all the three weight champs the UK has had? Nobody and I mean nobody is a bigger fan of Ricky's than me I can assure you, but nobody knows him has a boxer than me either.
That performance on Sat was very lame to say the least simply skipping around the ring and throwing nothing all fight. The worst part of all is while losing every round on points as his boxing was pony, he never at any time tried to have a go simply happy to skip his way through the fight losing every round. Looked to me that all he was interested in was the cheque from Ed Day Hearn.
I struggle to understand what you're on about. As Trumpy posted, you're coming across as a bitter man blaming Hearn for finding a new trainer.
Think ricky said indongo could hit jurgen...had a fear that if he went forward to much. He,d get knocked out. The thing is boxings easy sitting in our living rooms. I agree with billy. Although the big problem though was basically buying the belt at a higher weight class against a hopeless fighter. Again another bad decision for ricky by hearn in terms of career progression. If your putting these guys in just to make quick money dont be surprised if it goes wrong. I just dont think burns was ever really in eddies long term plans. You ve got to manage a career properly. Under hearn rickys went from being labelled scotlands best fighter...to the guy trying to sneak out the ring on saturday night. Tbf if burns went on from strength to strength everyone would be on saying to billy...look hes better off without you. Tbf to billy rickys struggled without him. And thats with matchroom behind him.
Burns has been a great boxer for himself and Scotland , under Billy he had great success , no one doubts this , But he moved on, why and what for is between them . But at this present time , Hearn done what a promoter is supposed to do he got a top level fighter a crack at the champ , in his HOME COUNTRY , the boxer could'nt handle the champ , wether he was a southpaw or just too big its irrelevant .. Burns did'nt win , went into his shell , and just did'nt have an answer to a better boxer ,, its no indictment of bad promoting , Jezus thats what its about getting cracks at titles ... Let me put it into a nutshell , 1--- A fighters job is to fight , win titles , and earn good money . 2--- A trainers job is to teach , coach , and help said fighters job to do that . 3 ---A managers jobs is to get the fighter to earn has much money , and win has many titles , whilst having the easiest fights possible , 4--- A promoters job is to line up good fights and give the public there moneys worth , after all he wants us to come back , buy ppv and support his product , ect ect ect Now you can't give Hearn stick because he done his job , in fact i think he was a bit suprised to see how good Rickys opponent was ... What you could argue , would be maybee before he moved camp Ricky was being looked after and avoiding the top fighters ,based on the fact that his previous trainer is telling the world that his ex 2 time world champ can't handle a decent southpaw and should avoid going for a title if it means fighting one . Fook me why would a promoter back a fighter if that was the case,, Ricky got a world title shot in his HOME COUNTRY aand failed to deliver , maybee its just time to say , he's not getting any better or younger . He still had a terrific carreer , and i hope he made shitloads in the proccess .
Good post trumpy. Personally i think promoters have an obligation to the fighter tho in terms of building their career. At the end of the day eddies protected his big assets but chucked in ricky cause hes not quite as big an asset. I think this is where the problem lies tho...essentially eddie is in it to make as much money as possible as well as for his fighters. But you ve got to realise the level their at. At least with crolla he got the big name in linares. Joshua was protected then got joshua. But with ricky its some guy no ones really heard of...more than once that was actually a) very good. b) rickys biggest nightmare opponent wise. Its just a we,ll get quick easy money who cares if he wins hes not as important as my big assets kind of attitude. For all the moaning about warren fighters...he was a shrewd matchmaker...and worked as more of a manager/promoter than eddie does. I think in a game as serious as boxing...you need the promoter to be looking out for you a bit more than eddie has with ricky. Think the scorecards 120-108 one shows ricky isnt on the guys level. The promoter should at least have an inkling that that levels probably beyond rickys level.
I know this is going to sound naive and I appreciate Billy knows Ricky better than anyone...but doesn't Ricky have a say in who he fights? To my understanding (and to his absolute credit) he wanted to fight Indongo despite knowing the fella was a southpaw and big with it because he wanted to test himself against the best and unify the division. If I'm right in saying this, then didn't Hearn provide what Ricky wanted? Or is the point that Ricky (and other fighters) should be protected from themselves at times by the promoter? Whatever happens, Ricky Burns has had an amazing career and has had the intelligence, motivation and right people round him to make the best out of the tools he has. Fair play.

Without a doubt Eddie is in it to make has much money for himself and the fighters ,, But you could argue a world title shot in his hometown is gonna bring him more money and definetly glory , than 2 easy fights against latvian taxi drivers in a basketeball stadium Eddie and Warren are different versions of promotors , Warren was quite happy to handpick the fights , smaller shows , pennies turn into pounds ,, Where Eddie wants the big shows , the limelight , the extravaganza , and the big money , . If Ricky would off won it would be happenning , but he did'nt , and Billy coming on here saying , he's got a great boxing iq , he's been a god under me ,, but keep him away from good southpaws , sort of says to you , that under Warren he was being looked after hand picked fights keep him winning , and fook the crowds ,, Under Hearn its been a case of , you want your shot at the big time here it is , and he fails No ones fault , maybee a couple of years ago Ricky would off pulled it off ,and I would venture to say the most disapointed out there besides Ricky is actually Eddie Hearn , he signs Burns up , when he's on top , and wants to make him King of Scotland , theres a lot of Jocks up north who will part with there hard earned to suport there own ,, But the problem Hearn has is , Ricky is past the taxi driver buildup stage , its big money and big fights for him , and it seems when Ricky has stepped up , he has'nt got it , but if he's to earn the big money and fight in the big stadiums , he has to win at the elite level , and he can't do it , other than that he has to step down a rung or two and a lesser payday.. I would'nt be suprised to see Hearns and Ricky part company soon , after all whats Eddie supposed to do , pay him huge money to ko someone he can beat easy , or get him world title shots , bit of a dilima for Eddie is'nt it
