This boxing game is getting ridiculous with rematch clauses. Nowadays i prefer listen to Back street boys better than Eddie Hearn.
Whyte isn't a champion, he doesn't deserve a rematch clause for every fight. It's just an abuse of bargaining power. Wouldn't be surprised if every Matchroom fighter has a rematch clause, even someone like Campbell Hatton. Even Hearn's marriage probably has a rematch clause.
I've never known the 'other' fighter to get a rematch from Matchroom, at least not by contractual force. I heard that Usyk would have had that option but even if that's true it's because the bargaining power was much more equal than usual.
Fury has to beat The Tuscaloser in his backyard not once by twice more after getting robbed blind against him in the first fight (so in reality has to go 3-0 against him in his backyard including said robbery). And The Tuscaloser has already said he's going to run away from a fourth fight between them if he manages to win on Saturday night, let alone dare to fight Fury in his backyard once despite Fury fighting him in his three times. The only reason the third fight is happening is because of corruption rearing its ugly head again. Fury should be 2-0 against him in his backyard and free to take part in a unification match up for all the marbles now. They just keep giving The Tuscaloser shot after shot until he eventually manages to pull it off. And snake-face E-Hearn and ReMatchroom (I like that one but it's not one of my own creations) made Povetkin who was 41 y/o shot and on his last legs have to beat Whyte twice after sparking him out cold in his backyard and the only reason the rematch wasn't over in Whyte's backyard again which it was scheduled to be (London) and over in Gibralter is because of Covid restrictions. In Povetkin's previous five fights he'd fought Price in the UK, AJ in the UK, Hughie in the UK, Hunter in Saudi, and Whyte in the UK but neither E-Hearn or Whyte were willing for the rematch to take place in Russia even though Povetkin sparked him out cold the first time. Then Usyk who had everything against him has to beat AJ twice, most likely in AJ's backyard both times because E-Hearn isn't at all keen on the rematch being staged in king of the road warrior and current WBA, IBF and WBO three-belt unified Usyk's backyard because he knows it will be much harder to stitch Usyk up over there and for AJ to win after Usyk outclassed his boy in the first fight. Usyk was a mandatory challenger so there shouldn't have even been a rematch clause. And now Ottomatic has to beat Whyte twice in his backyard to get past him too So you even if you spark your opponent out cold in biblical fashion in their backyard, outclass them in their backyard, or outbox them and then beat the soul out of their body in the rematch in their backyard you still have to rematch them in their backyard. God knows what you would need to do if you won a razor-close decision over them that was genuinely razor-close
I've got off Hearn of late, chats so much **** about how he's single handedly saving boxing. But he's effectively turned into rematch room.
This is basically what's going on. Joshua's walking on thin ice and the cash cow is getting leaner. If he loses to Usyk again, his star power will plummet like a bowling ball on ice. Hearn is basically protecting his future investments by doing all he can for Whyte as a sort of back up star. He's a hard hitting trash talking exciting heavyweight but he was always the unappreciated middle child and Hearn only cares about him now that Joshua's future is in jeopardy.
The WBC states on their website that the winner of Fury-Wilder 3 has 30 days to negotiate with Usyk for a unification fight. If the winner can't sign a deal, the winner has to fight the mandatory Dillian Whyte next. Joshua has already invoked his rematch clause with Usyk. Not sure how air tight that is. But Usyk seems willing at this point. Dillian Whyte has a rematch clause with Wallin. If Whyte loses, he is no longer the mandatory. He'll invoke his rematch clause with Wallin. The current #1 WBC contender is Wilder. If Wilder wins, Fury will drop to somewhere in the ratings. The current #2 is Andy Ruiz. The current #3 is Joe Joyce. If Whyte loses to Wallin and invokes his rematch clause and Joshua has invoked his clause against Usyk ... Who gets the next WBC title shot? Probably depends on who the winner Saturday is. If Fury wins, Joyce (Warren) may be next. If Wilder wins, it may be Ruiz (PBC). Everything in the heavyweight division is completely up in the air at this moment.
