You're active today RC! Love it. You have perfect taste in regards to what would end up making a good thread, every fight you pluck out of your hat is an absolute winner. How's life sir?
Watching this fight STILL makes my side hurt. What a masterclass by Gregory. Johnson so tough but just gets broken down.
Eddie had the perfect style to beat southpaw Johnson. Those body shots took Marvin out of the fight. (In fact, some of the conventional fighters today, might review this fight, to see how to solve the "southpaw puzzle".)
Just how highly do you rank Eddie? He seemed to excel even within a golden age of light heavyweight fighters. How much more could he have accomplished with a little more fire in his belly?
Definitely had the tools just a discipline issue. One of those I just don't get it things. Like James Toney except Eddie couldn't get it back together.
Yeah, the loss to James Scott didn't make any sense at all..Eddie just didn't have his head together for that one...I'm sure that if he was "on" he would have given Scott the "treatment"...
I think that if he hadn't so stupidly gone heavyweight and taken that dumb ass fight with the scared Renaldo Snipes that he would have beaten Spinks...losing all that weight just drained him...as what happened to Roy Jones after he came back down to 175 after beating Ruiz.
I believe a Eddie v MSpinks bout could have occured but Eddie showed up overweight, and Michael said to heck with that, and the scheduled fight didn't take place.
I suppose it’s fitting that Eddie ended up training Toney at one point (eddie also trained Barkley and stopped it wisely when Toney picked him apart). Eddie was training Toney when he beat up Delgado. During the post fight interview, Toney said “I was better than Eddie”. That’s an interesting one how does Toney vs. EM Muhammad go? Let’s say they are both well prepared. Anywhere from 168-175.
