Matthew had Eddie down if I recall, and the end result was a split decision for Eddie Mustafa...I'm going to watch this one closely.

Robert..I think a draw would have been fair..with the kd scored by Matt taken into consideration. There was a lot of respect for Eddie shown by Saad IMO.

Do you have any kind of top ten (Or, hell, more) favorite LHW 70's tussles? I'd love to have something of a heavily endorsed playlist of quality golden age light heavy weight scraps to sink my teeth into....

I was primarily a fan of Victor Galindez...the guy fascinated me...his bout with Eddie Mustafa was one of my favorites...the kd round was a peach,...Eddie had Galindez against the ropes and hurt him with a couple of body punches, and like a flash, VG adjusted and countered off the ropes with a doozy of a right hand to deck Eddie....turned the fight around from there...though it was so close...the ref's deduction of points from some low blows by Eddie probably help cinch the decision for the champion.
Saad Muhammad KO 14 Yaqui Lopez is one of the best action fights of all time.
The two Galindez-Rossman fights are favorites of mine as well.
Watch the two Eddie Mustafa title bouts vs Johnson and Martin that I posted for sheer perfection.
Going back to 1972, Foster's ko of Chris Finnegan was Foster's toughest battle.

I believe I've seen bits and pieces of the Finnegan/Foster bout.

What exactly allowed Finnegan to hang as tough as he did against a legitimate great fighter in Foster? Was it the seemingly endless stamina and conditioning many fighters from the UK used to demonstrate? Or was it more so a skill issue, a great chin, all of the above...?

Hi Red! As another poster said, don't forget Matthew and Marvin's quinella, especially the 1st one. And hey! I wanna be a part of this club mentioned in your Victor-Eddie thread! What in the heck is that all about? :) May have a knee replacement soon and want all my flesh & blood buds and my internet buds with me in the hospital.
    Signed: "Chester" (Gunsmoke) :(
P.S. I think my wife likes you more than I do; "let's go to Florida sometime this year and visit Mr. & Mrs. 'Red Cobra'!" :) :)

CBS Sports Spectacular (I recall) used to use some of the Franklin vs Johnson I shootout film as a "commercial promo lead-in" to the following big boxing match they were showing to follow on that particular Saturday (Tim Ryan & Gil Clancy....at the mikes).

Matt was just coming into his own when this bout was fought. Eddie "The Flame" Gregory was probably the more experienced of the two at that stage of their careers.
