Eddie Mustafa Muhammad was a great boxer ...but he was terrible on the inside...look at his fight with James Scott ...I think that’s what happens here . I haven’t watched a ton of Prince Charles Williams...but he looks like a guy who likes it on the inside. Williams UD

Prince was a very good fighter but hes a level below the best version of EMM. I have that Eddie beating James Toney as well.

If Eddie's on it like he was Pops, the fight is very similar, but more even one-sided. Williams was a good, fun fighter with a nice inside game, but Eddie was a special fighter when he was on form. He was just rarely on form. If he's not on it, I can see him being out-worked.

    Eddie TKO9-10.

How did you score Eddie’s fight with Michael Spinks?

To be honest mate, I never scored it but I thought Spinks won, no question.

Prince Charles style always surprised me. He was a tall enough guy and rather lean with even leaner legs, yet he banged on the inside and took it to guys with volume punching and he could overwhelm guys. He could be hurt, but he recovered very well and was physically strong enough. I think a fight with Iran Barkley and Prince Charles would have been wild.. I think EMM wins this one by decision.

Eddie if in top physical shape late tko. Probably similar to the Toney/Williams fight.

Williams, though a decent fighter, wasn’t in Eddie Gregory’s class. I think he loses by stoppage

I'd agree. If Eddie's on form (Marvin Johnson, Jerry Martin type form) he stops Williams late.

Prince Charles was damn good, but just a step below Eddie.

Michael Spinks v Eddie Mustafa Muhammad

Coming to the end of my light-heavyweights of the 70s/80s series of fights now - any more I watch of that era from now on will be when it takes my fancy rather than a dedicated effort to watch them. I've missed a few, either because they weren't available or I wasn't as enthused to see them. I think I've left this one till last because I suspected it wouldn't make for great viewing even though these two are top fighters. Let's see.

    1 10-10 (predictably uneventful round)
2 10-9 (bit better than the first)
    3 10-9
    4 10-9 (close)
5 9-10 (nice body work by Mustafa Muhammad)
    6 10-10 (pretty turgid)
    7 9-10 (close)
    8 10-9 (better from Spinks)
9 10-9 (Mustafa Muhammad's right eye is shut)
10 9-10 (close. Mustafa Muhammad woke up at the end of the round to just edge it.)
11 10-10 (this feels like homework)
12 10-8 (finally some proper action! Spinks drops Muhammad who survives but shows no fire and passively receives a bit of a beating for the rest of the round)
    13 10-9
    14 10-9
    15 10-9

    Spinks 147 - 140 Mustafa Muhammad

Yep, pretty turgid stuff. Mustafa Muhammad gave a lacklustre performance and it was a pretty horrible style clash. No doubts about the winner.

Interesting card Jel as most cards have Mustafa winning 4 or 5 of the first 7. He was comfortably outboxing Spinks for the majority of that period from memory before the weight loss caught up with him as Spinks was also starting to come on as he often did.
