if the cap fits
let them wear it
He offered Jenkins more money than he had ever been paid. Jenkins accepted and was desperate for the fight. Warren blocked it.
funny how it’s different when the shoes on the other foot.
that’s boxing for you.
Without question, he was staggering around against a shot to pieces Linares.
So you're saying its ok to avoid high risk low reward fights but not ok to want/shout off about high risk high reward fights , that makes zero sense to me.
Everything has it's price, do you think Benn fights DA for £1.5m or £2m ? Its a lot more likely imo because the reward measures up to the risk.
I think its quite clear what they think , DA is high risk low reward as you say. The Porter's , Garcia's etc are high risk high reward. Low risk reasonable reward seems the way forward for a little while yet imo.
I guess that answers my question on why he skipped the British route then - very annoying
I would doubt it tbh. The fight/offer isn't big enough to garner any interest from team Benn and I can't see that changing anytime soon.
??? Matchroom are paying Benn to fight Algieri, Team DA and Frank made the £500k offer to Benn to fight DA.
Tbh didn’t no that had been offered, could always have made a counter offer. Actually a bit sickening that Connor benn is being off half a milly for a fight and turning it down saying it’s bad money. He hasn’t really had a meaningful fight yet.
Do we see any promoters throw a prospect in with a tough fight against one of the divisions best before they are ready for a payday that’s the same as they would make against an easier opponent who offers them more exposure.
Will Jared Anderson fight filip hrgovic next? No one says a word when zach Parker is in a position to fight Canelo without fighting anyone with a pulse. It’s because it’s benn and Hearn.
for some perspective between 16-0 and 20-0 Errol spence who had extensive amateur pedigree fought Vargas, lo Greco, van heerden, algieri they did not throw him in with matthysse and pruvodnikov for example.
The next big thing in the division is boots Ennis at 19-0 he fought Samuel amaoko And 20-0 the killer known as Mike Arnoutis. Even now at 28-0 he could fight DA but what does that offer him? A tough fight for relatively low pay and a guy with low profile.
no one is fighting DA until they have to. He currently offers nothing. Put a world title on him and it becomes a different story. Why doesn’t he try and go down the mandatory route?
I don’t think they think it is a bad offer just that the risk outweighs the reward.
If he lost to DA as most think he would (I haven’t heard 1 person say they think Benn would win) where does that leave him ?
His management/promoters etc would get slaughtered and rightly so when he could’ve been picking up the same purse for fighting the likes of Algieri.
This has often been the case with British fighters. Protecting the '0' and building up a long unbeaten record that looks good on paper is a good marketing tool that works on the casual fans.
Calzaghe was 40-0 and a 13 year pro by the time he fought Lacy in a unification fight. Hatton was 38-0 and a 7 year pro when he fought Tszyu. Kell Brook was 32-0 and a 10 year pro when he fought Porter. Before then they had fought nothing but absolute puddings and basically wasted a large chunk of their prime years. Guys like Froch and Josh Taylor are the exception rather than the rule.
And these examples our three of our most talented and popular fighters who despite all this, were still good enough to get the wins when they did eventually step up. So don't expect Benn, who is clearly nowhere near that level, to fight anyone serious any time soon.
No one is Claiming zach Parker to be the next Ppv star and face of British boxing either.
100% agree. And just as Froch and Taylor would struggle for mainstream recognition at their peak, the others were relatively well known by the time they were able to step up for the biggest fights.
Similar to the other busy thread about boxers who didn't reach their potential, there's definitely another thread in those who didn't reach their commercial potential. And vice versa.
uysk unified at cruiser then heavy in what 19 fights
same at lww 19 fights undisputed
this if one claims to be good enough how you at least try to do it
no harm in losing
Are you OK
