Globally. Piece by piece, I think Hearn will dominate world boxing. He's already got his fingers in every pie necessary to do so. I'm no matchroom cheerleader by the way. I hate sky sports, dislike Anthony Joshua and have criticised Hearn many times in the past. However, I can't help but believe Hearn is making serious moves to conquer the boxing world outside of Britain, where he is already top dog. My reason for believing he will do it is DAZN. The world has changed, the internet is the heartbeat of it and with that, subscription television has become less popular. Slowly but surely, I see subscription TV ratings deteriorating until apps like Netflix and DAZN are left to battle it out for supremacy. Netflix is already at that stage in many homes. I believe sport will follow the mould and DAZN are the frontrunner to dominate the field. It's important to remember that in the near future, every home will have a smart TV and the tech dinosaurs of the world will die out. Eddie got on board the DAZN model early which was an absolute masterstroke. He's already giving them good cards and more importantly, consistent content with his huge stable inside and outside of Britain. He mentioned in an IFL interview he's adding more shows in another two European countries which will take matchroom boxing up to 52 shows annually. That is an incredible amount of shows and the exact consistency DAZN want for their monthly subscribers. They can only be delighted with matchroom. People will talk about Golden Boy also being on DAZN but I believe DAZN wanted Canelo a lot more than they wanted Golden Boy promotions, and you couldn't have one without the other. The difference between Eddie and Oscar is Eddie will use Canelo being on DAZN to sign more fighters and build an empire in America, while Oscar enjoys the cash. Eddie has a burning desire to take over the world, and a workrate unlike any other promoter and that'll put him as top dog on DAZN and in America when Canelo decides to hang them up. It's only a matter of time before DAZN come for British boxing fans and more significantly, premier league football fans. If they secure the premier league, they take over British sport and boxing will follow suit. The great irony will occur when Eddie simply signs exclusive matchroom boxing UK rights over to DAZN, the platform he'd worked with since its boxing birth, leaving sky - the network who put him where he is today - to pick up the pieces. That's just business, and Eddie Hearn clearly knows a lot about it. The next eight years will be interesting. If I were sky, I'd be worried. Likewise Showtime, as DAZN appear to be attempting to crush their PPV model. If DAZN remains a ten dollar subscription and comes to the UK for the same price, it can only be good for boxing fans. I really wouldn't bet against DAZN dominating world sport because the internet holds no barriers. Hearn was the first to get on board and has the desire and savvy to utilise the opportunity. I believe it'll work out even better for him than his sky deal, which put him where he is today.
Not reading all that **** but after a couple of US cards Hearn looks exhausted ...He cannot be everywhere all the time... It is possible the Hearn stable has all Heavyweight,Cruiser,Middleweight belts soon...he is a bit of a genius but i predict a breakdown in not too distance future
I hope there is one centralised promoter. Don't care who. With friendly dealings with smaller promoters. Its how us fans would get to see fights quicker or at least without so much bull**** around making them
Great post Hattonmad. I totally agree. The issue Hearn will have is making sure he doesnt spread himself to thin. I think he neefs someone with great presence to hel0 him promote the shows, be the salesman in different territories I think that man is Tony Bellew.
Too early to call on DAZN. They need to get the some staple American sports. Doesn't even have to be the nfl or nba. College football or college basketball would be a start.
Yeah I agree, he does look tired in certain interviews but he loves it, he loves the big deals and big fights. I think that's why he has been getting Frank Smith ready for the UK events, there is plenty of things said about young Frank taking more responsibility in the very near future. I think Eddie is fronting a lot of this now but as soon a second things settle a little then Frank will start having a more hands on role.
Chubby checker Frank couldn’t run a bath. Eddie should hire Young Francis Warren to look after Matchroom’s UK interests.
Far too early to call DAZN world domination! You make it sound like they will just take all the sports like it's nothing! All they do is up the prices for everything meaning if they want the big sports they will have to pay am absoulute premium! Which in turn will squeeze the lesser sports, pretty much what you are seeing on Sky right now.
PPV numbers dropping. He has to get somebody's money from somewhere... The ones that see it see it. Those that don't i suggest they prepare themselves for more fleecing....
Hes in a very strong position with Sky, they cant get rid of him as theyll be inviting DAZN in earlier than they need to. Think his hearts with DAZN now, but hes locked in with Sky for another 7 years, I think. Looks like hes going to start Matchroom franchises in each area DAZN operate, working with an established promoter in each. DAZN say theyll be in 20 countries by 2022. If hes operating in all these areas, getting the cream of the talent early, and funneling them to the US/UK. Itll be pretty much unstoppable.
