In itself, no. Along with Whitaker's ability, accomplishments, etc, then pretty much. There or thereabouts. Edging the fight with an absolute peak, undefeated De La Hoya (as I scored it) is just a staggering achievement, absolutely staggering. Look how difficult a clearly inferior version of Oscar made it for Mayweather; a prime Mayweather as compared to the well past-his-best version of Whitaker that tangled with the Golden Boy.

Yeah no doubt he beat quite a few rated guys, it's just that I know hardly anything about them. That's more my ignorance than anything else though...

Is there a reason for that? How does one decide "I know, I'll watch everything from Myung Woo Yuh before watching Whitaker fights" ?

Does his style bore you or something?

Not really, I just haven't got around too it.

Becoming acquitanted with Myung Woo Yuh was by accident. I had never even heard of the guy, but Popkins posted his fight with Tokushima in a Classic Forum thread, and that fight really impressed me. His body punching, and uncanny ability to maneuver out of the way of punches intrigued me. This was a fighter I'd had never heard being praised before, whereas Whitaker is very popular among the hardcore crowd. I was more interested in exploring a fighter I knew nothing about, and who I felt was obscure at the time, than I was looking at Pernell Whitaker.

Whitaker was in some good fights but it seems to be heresy on this board to point out that he was in some snoozers.

Fair enough.... And I suppose it's a good thing too. Once you watch Whitaker, everything else will seem mundane. :good

I'm actually just about to go watch his fight with Greg Haugen.

If you are looking for a contest in particular, just about every single fight he competed in will appear to be a snoozer. If you are interested in the craft of boxing though, there's hardly anyone more enjoyable to watch.

I know i always say this, but Whitaker, more so than any other fighter inm history, gives me the impression that he's thinking 'what are you doing in my rong?' when he was fighting.

Sweet. One of, if not the most clinical performance of his career. Make sure you stay awake for the theatrics in the last round. :good

Sounds like Whitaker was too good for his own good.

I'm off to go watch his schooling of Haugen.
