Who are we comparing him to? Louis probably had superior combination-punching speed and much, much better power than Usyk, but I don't see him as having Usyk's all-around "skills" or versatility. And he certainly doesn't have the skills of guys like Crawford or Lomachenko, imo. But that' s based on my understanding of what boxing skills entail. If you just understand "skills" as a synonym for "boxing abilities" then I get that this probably sounds like crazy talk. Technically, he basically looks like a modern boxer to me. Certainly not flawless or some paragon of pure boxing technique though.
Who claims this, though? I mean, it would be kind of an absurd claim for anyone who knows just a little about RJJ. Then we he also have Naz, Mayorga and, going back a little further, Nunn. These are fighters everyone on this forum knows about.
Of course he doesn’t have Usyk and Lomas movement, granted. I think they both have superb boxing skills. But I don’t think you have to move like them to be as good of a boxing technician. Mayweather has a completely different style, but I would place him at the top echelon of boxing skills/technique. Also, I don’t think Louis is one of the best technicians ever. I think he was top tier or pretty damn close. My question was about whether he represented antiquated technique, or if he had really good technique compared to modern fighters. If you’re saying the latter, then I have to honestly say that some of your posts seem to indicate otherwise, however this response is good enough for me. I appreciate the reply.
You’re talking about the videos I make, or the ones I post? Either way, what a skill I must posses to have great taste in such things, while completely misunderstanding the content.
