The question should be, 'is there a fighter today as good as Eder Jofre, that guy from 50 years ago?'
I don't recall anyone seriously making such an assertion on this board, at least someone who was not a fly-by-the-night poster.
I would say that the recruitment of heavyweight athletes has progressed... But the lower weights? Nope.
So there are posters on this forum who "hate the older fighters who they've never seen or researched"? How does this even make sense?
I respectfully disagree, Loma is a small lightweight now, but in that era, with same day weigh ins, he'd be an average sized LW in Jofre's era, so that's a BW vs a LW, or if Jofre came forward to our time with day before weigh ins, Jofre might've been able to reach as low as Fly, bit definitely 115. Either way, Jofre's giving up 15-20lbs, they shouldn't really be fighting eachother.
This forum or this history section no. But I’ve encountered plenty of boxing fans who hate anything that’s of a previous era and hate all the old fighters. I’ve talked to modern fans who are adamant Thurman is better than all the Fab Four, that any fighter with a loss is overrated and that Mikey Garcia is an all-time great because he got 4 belts.
