Vic, AlFrancis and I was discussing this DVD documentary in another thread. I just watched it and it is really interesting, with an interview with Jofre and a lot of rare footage. In the film we see clips of these fights (ranging from quick clips to ones about 5 minutes or so long. The bouts are: Sanchez Legra Kid Farrinelli Caraceres II Jumaoas Spinosa Miranda Fukuyama (looked a war) Belhadi Medal I Caldwell Harada II Gomez Crawford Lopez Jiminez For me, I have always regarded Eder Jofre as a boxer-puncher but after watching thi I think he is slightly more pressure-fighter or a hybrid of the two. He pressures forward with his semi-crouch and looks for openings to land hard rights. You could say he's like Dick Tiger in the way he stalks looking for openings. He really does pick his shots well especially with his right uppercuts to the body and thrown overhand. Also as he stalks forward he has some nice rolls and bobs to make his opponent miss, although he is hittable. His offence is pretty spectacular when he lets loose, his right hand is lethal and devastating. He really throws it with bad intentions, although he can tend to 'wing it', rather than throw it compact. His left hand is sublime IMO, he has a solid jab but his left hooks and uppercuts are breathtaking, often doubling up on them. However, he tends to under-use his left IMO in favor of probing with his left for an opening with his right. He really does look a spectacular fighter, maybe not as spectacular as I thought he might be though, but definitely one of the best ever in boxing.
Interesting Greg....... I remember Eder saying something like Ernesto Miranda was one of his thoughest opponents......I know he was a really good mover....But...How long are the highlights of Jofre vs Miranda ??
Its good, I seen your picture and bought it so thanks for alerting me to it. I was really impressed with Jofre's sense of patriotism.
You´re welcome Greg..... Yeah....He is a really nice guy, very humble.......His Dad was a great person too, had a lot of knowledge and knew how to transmit them as a master, was a great motivator Mr. "Kid" Jofre.....Our greatest boxing coach ever.....
Watched it today....... Dick Tiger is a great comparison Greg, in the way he attacks.... Man, his body punches are so punishing !! That against Fukuyama is awesome ! Unfortunately no footage of Jofre vs Saldivar......I´m not sure if it is Miranda too....problably not....I don´t know....
What was the doc? Jofre was more of a pressure fighter, which means he left himself open to be hit a bit. Jofre had a great array of skills. His uppercut was artistic. Nat Fleischer who was not a big fan of modern fighters said Jofre was as good an an bantam he has ever seen. Seldom do you see an accurate pressure fighter with good accuracy, good punch variety and power in both mitts. My #1 all time Bantam.
