In the ring magazine Jofre was rated 9th out of the 50 best fighters in the 50 years prior to 1996. Info:
    Record 72-2-4 (50)
    World Titles Bantamweight*, Featherweight
    Quality of competition 7
Bouts vs Top 50 fighters 2
Why he`s here Unbeaten in his first 50 fights; great bantamweight who took three years off and returned to win the feather title
What he could have done to improve his ranking Reigned during the run of brilliant Mexican 118-pounders. Since he went unbeaten for 50 fights does that match Mayweather`s record?

Not quite - Jofre was 47-0-3 in his first 50 fights (including 37 kos I think) so not a perfect 50-0 like Mayweather. He also went without a win in his next three (including the only two defeats of his career - both to Fighting Harada) before retiring for 3 years.

However, when he came back he went a further 25-0 and won the featherweight world title before retiring for a final time. Bear in mind too that he has as many KOs as Mayweather has wins.

Despite Mayweather being an all-time great talent. P**s on him! IMO he's played his game much like Ali did in his second career, maybe more. Once he got into his late 30's something victories, given his skills, I saw him go into 'defensive mode' knowing he could cop victories on his defensive skills alone thus depriving live/closed circuit fans their hard earned monies worth! :( When he, FINALLY, fought Pac, I called the fight before the first bell: Floyd moving, building a lead, not opening up (like his early career). Pac lands some semi-bombs, Floyd moving away and then? Back to his superb defense and boxing skills; which was a UD for Floyd with Pac fans clamoring for a rematch. In short he coasted the latter part of his career and rarely opened up like he did early on. Let him fight, at least, 8 times a year, like the old guys, and you've got some losses on his resume.
Back to thread: Jofre warrants higher consideration as an ATG then Mayweather.

Not sure why we keep forgetting about Jofre, when us "Experts" keep coming up with our
    "Fantasy matchups".

Agreed, Jofre doesn't get talked about enough. Jofre and Mayweather do not belong in the same breathe and/or sentence .. Thanks to Mcvey who does bring up Jofre more than most

Jofre in my view was basically the perfect fighter. Perfect in the sense he had no real weaknesses, high IQ, great foundations, power in both hands, mastery of every punch whilst being an aggressive fighter coming forward who had good defense. He was so good at figuring the opponent out early and would pick them off but by bit and size them up and often use their aggression against them. He could even look good and flashy against opponents in defense or retreat mode.

I think when you factor in his skill level and his career he’d probably have to be top 10 all-time at least in my view.
