Edgar Berlanga born 05/18/1997 is a 6'1 Middleweight with a 13-0 13 KO's record. Born in and fighting out of Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. This heavy handed Boricuan Brooklynite who had a fairly impressive amateur career, racking up 162 wins and 17 losses, in the process becoming an 8 time national champion and took silver in the Junior Olympic Nationals. He went pro early and signed with Real Deal Sports & Entertainment, Evander Holyfield's promotion, but after blitzing countless opponents in the 1st round, he was snatched up by the Bobfather and signed with Top Rank. Since signing with Arum, his string of first round KO's is still going strong, I highly doubt it'll last much longer, he's going to have to step up eventually, and the better the opposition, the better then chins and the better the defense. All these KO1's are badass, but they aren't teaching him a hell of a lot, maybe it's the right time to put him in with a durable journeyman, to work out all of the kinks he'll encounter when sharing the ring with a legit opponent. The power seems legit, but he still a little too wild and reckless, but if he can hone his skills with some better opponents, he may very well turn into a killing machine. He's got a nice jab to the body, brings nonstop pressure, has a decent high guard defense, has fast hands and punches in combination, his offense also serves as his defense, he seems to have power in both hands, and his left hook seems to be his most effective. Who knows he may get KTFO when he steps up, but if he has a great chin and his power is effective against solid competition, he's going to be a problem. March 14, The gloved prey will come to survive the first 180 seconds at any cost, Edgar has no option other than extending his 1st Round KO streak If he scores that 14th first round consecutive KO, he immediately becomes a theorized-favorite vs any active Middleweight. If he loses the 1st round KO streak, he loses the aura...becomes another prospect This content is protected
I think this kid has legit power, great offence and decent defence, the questions that remain about him you've already pointed out clearly. I've spoken with his brother a few times on youtube and he says this kid takes this game very seriously and trains diligently. Problem for Berlanga being at Top Rank is that they have a very limited number of middleweights on their roster for when he's just about to be stepping up to the big stage, they have Murata, Brant and Falcao. Including Frank Warren's roster you've got Williams and that's about it. Not many good stepping stones, some journeymen will only take him so far. Those guys would likely be too much too soon bar Falcao perhaps. At DAZN they have a massive selection of fighters, in and around 20 guys in the top 100 to pick from. At least a WBO title shot is always a possibility under Bob but I'd rather he progressed incrementally through the ranks.
Edgar Berlanga greatest advantage over all active Middleweights is: First Round Consecutive KO Ratio 100% KO Ratio Its the same: Bitterly Bald Rogan saying he likes being bald because he hates styling his hair (other than that great) 4.5" short Marvin promoting the size don't matter myth (Still a very impressive Fitness-Dating-Coach) Then slower boxing insiders sayings 1st Round KOs are bad (For their protected prospects) Edgar Primal enemies will be greatly relieved if Edgar loses his impressive 1st round KO consecutive streak
Dude his last fight was a European/fringe contender level super middleweight and he was blasted out in a matter of seconds. This kind of streak is hardly doing him any bad. I just hope he gets tough sparring and fighting a guy like Talarek, Nonaka, etc.
GGG & Canelo were spoiled brats given soft touch opponents and warm massages in the cold camps, but Edgar is real. Numbers exposes the franchise paper tigers... 13th opponent & result 16-1 (1 round) --- Edgar Berlanga 13-9 (8 rounds) --- GGG 14-4 (2 rounds) --- Canelo
Not a huge fan of either but Canelo was only a kid and GGG had beaten a fringe contender himself by that point in Ian Gardner. Still, Berlanga should be a real one if he's stepping up that easily.
13-0-0-0 (KO 13) so far all in the first round, the first middleweight to do it. No boxer was able to keep to keep a 1st round KO streak into title defenses, if Edgar is able to keep the first Round KO streak into Title defenses, he is an instant ATG. Edgar is the favorite to set this historic world record & it will be a record impossible to break.
