His opponent is Carlos Melo, of Panama. I have never seen footage of ths guy. Melo has a record of 19-8. He has a total of two knockouts. The first came in his pro debut against another total novice. The second was more recent but came against a 9-8 fighter who had lost his last five, Melo being the fourth man to knock him out in a row. Melo hasn't won a 12 rounder since 2005. He has fought only two other since, one for the WBA title, a stoppage loss, one for the inter-continental title, a points loss. In his last three, he has lost two, including having dropped an 8 round decision for the Panamanian title To earn his crack at Edgar Sosa, Carlos Melo beat Alfonso De La Hoz in 8 rounds. This guy lost to Melo as part of a 6 fight losing streak in which he is still mired. Sosa is a good fighter, ranked at #2 by ring in his division. What a God-daamn shame that he's picked such a total nobody for his ninth defence. Won't be watching this one.
Ive been a huge fan of Sosa ever since he dismantled Brian Viloria but since then, his opposition has been weak.. I understand that the lower weight division lacks true competition but he needs to step it up and fight somebody worthy... There are a few he can choose from.. Viloria rematch makes sense right about now, Roman Gonzalez, Giovanni Segura, Garcia, and even Solis.. He needs to stop this bum tour and make his mark..
