Saturday-Kid, that buzz you say you get from being punched is called concussion. If you start enjoying it too much take up golf.

You can fight in the am's till 34 I think .My advice is if you join work hard .Don't miss boxing or skip running also skip diet because weight is harder in 30's and all round boxing training is harder .It's a young mans game but it all depends how much you want it .Find a good trainer and speak to him best advice and motivation you'll ever get

There is no way you can self teach boxing at all.

Just rock up, 24 aint that old. The culture of boxing gyms isnt like football or any others sport, people are very respectful no matter their level and no-one is going to laugh at you.

holyrood at duddingston road west,,near the police station, is the best club in edinburgh in my opinion mate very strong emphasis placed on skill unlike alot of other places which just put you through circuits

you also have leith victoria in leith which is basically just opposite tescos beside the persever, thats cheap, like a quid a session but not much quality sparring.

Sparta aac also, this is just off sir harry lauder road, unfortunatly i hear it has went right down hill since i was there,i went when it was in mcdonald road when franny goodwin was coaching.

meadowbank aac which is in meadowbank stadium again focuses more on circuit training but it is relativly cheap, training is on monday and wednesdays i think, they have 1 or 2 boxers but imo its more a fitness room.

The edinburgh boxing academy at granton square, just round the corner from "go outdoors" is a wee bit steep on the price at a fiver a session but the crcuits are gruelling. this is run by former super middleweight sean heron-who is making a comeback btw at cruiserweight, theres alot of middle aged people at this gym and they have no boxers but i found it ideal for a wee bit extra work,do a circuit then beat up one of old guys in sparring.

you also have clovenstone which has been mentioned, this has a good reputation, hard sparring.

last but not least is lochend or LA as they like to be called which is on restalrig, some very good fighters coming out of there these days

the guy above is right about meadowbank, i went there ten years ago just to boost my fitness before pre season training [football]. the gym's small but the ****ers had you running round the track outside and doing sprints up the stadium steps. to be honest there was a few older guys like yourself that took it up late when i went so should suite you better than one of bigger boxing clubs in the toon, but what the **** do i know i only went to one for about 3 months ha!.

What a crock of shite! if he enjoys it and is decet he could have a novice fight in about 8 months- a year and then he'd have 2 or 3 years fighting on club shows an amateur enjoying the buzz of getting ready for a fight. The way you are talking unless you are going to be champion of the world you should just forget it. Terrible attitude.
