Taylor would LOVE the slow pace. :yep No worry about gassing. I see him throwing enough to win and then making AA come to him and throw so he could counter. I think Taylor would love this fight.
Hermit, do you have the official judges scorecards on the fight? I'll have to rewatch it and see if AA was getting beat before the headbutt.
That would be my real reason for giving Pavlik the edge against AA. Abraham throws those rediculous looping shots and Kelly throws heat straight down the chute. That and AA needs to get in the ring with better competition and stop living off Kelly's sloppy seconds.
No, but the head butt did not cause the jaw problem. If it had the fight would have stopped at that point. AA wanted to quit but was pretty much told to continue because he would lose his title by TKO if he didn't. They just stopped the fight to deduct points for the head butt and then gave AA about two or three minutes 'medical' time. Had the fight continued after the deduction, it might have been a different story. The ref indulged the Saurland folks in prolonging the time out.
The pre-pavlik version of Miranda stopped the same version of Eastman that lasted 12 with AA, he beat up Willie Gibbs, and gave Arthur the fight of his life. The post Pavlik version looked like he was getting thoroughly out boxed by David Banks before he stopped Banks, and got sparked by AA in 4. I think there is a marked difference between the pre and post pavlik versions of Miranda.
You can argue that Abraham is a better fighter if you wish but he certainly doesn't have a better resume..he fought so many EMPTY CANS, while he's been a champ !!
Here's an interesting point. We had an oustanding thread yesterday: Pavlik/Abraham: A Closer Look. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117262 In my initial analysis I made the point that KP has a higher KO ratio against better opposition. Not one single AA supporter so much as tried to refute that point. Of course those guys were all smart posters who know boxing. This noob is obviously out of touch with the real sport at the global level.
Well, styles make fights, and my guess is that Pavlik suits Abraham better then the other way around.
Hermit was talking about a 50/50 chance to get it right where the old "styles make fights" adage is concerned. To a great extent styles DO make fights, and I have to agree that in the case of KP and AA nealry all of the stylistic and physical attribute advantages fall Kelly's way. Abraham prefers to hold things down to a slow pace, and set traps. The only person who ever succesfully set traps against Pavlik was BHop, and Arthur Abraham is not qualified to mow Bernard's lawn. Against Pav, Arthur will be facing a guy who has a 4 1/2" inch height advantage, a 3" over all reach advantage, and HUGE arm length advantage. When Kelly has his mojo workin' he throws close to a hundred punches a round, lands 40%, and does not give his opponent so much as 10 seconds to relax. Arthur is gettin' Pavlikated inside 8 rounds, and a big part of that will be because "styles make fights."
Miranda should retire. He reminds me of Victor Cordoba. He will lose his next fight whoever is in the other corner. He gave some big name fighters some trouble but takes way too many shots.
