She fought Ewą Brodnicką yesterday for the WBO female world super featherweight title. Overshadowing the fight was an incident at Thursday's weigh-in, during which Brodnicką interrupted the customary face-off to lean forward and give Matthysse a peck on the lips. Edith's response to being sexually assaulted was to slap the Pole hard across the face...and she would continue to do just that (along with plugging a bevy of hard body shots) during their match, dominating most of it only to be robbed on the official scorecards. There was a quiet storm of not just Argentine but also Polish fans on Twitter, expressing outrage at the decision. @Somachenko and I might be the only people whose first language is English who actually watched the fight, but it needs to be restated: this was a terrible verdict, among the worst of 2019 so far, and despite having been the B-side journeywoman (ex-titlist or not) on her opponent's home turf, Matthysse deserves to be a 3x world champion. She beat up Brodnicką that clearly. As clearly as she was defeated by Jackie Nava (via shutout) in her first international assignment. It was arguably her finest hour since upsetting Jelena Mrdenovich in 2015, and best performance since their rematch the next year (in which Edith got robbed abroad, in what is turning into a self-fulfilling pattern) - and she's thirty-freaking-nine years old.

She has that in common with Lucas, for sure. Her brothers have power in common but despite being the most feather-fisted sibling by far she is the second best overall fighter, way closer to Lucas than Walter.
