Edner Cherry vs Omar Douglas & Frank De Alba vs Ryan Kielczweski RBR

NO, not even close, Pinoy Prodigy and Drenlou chose Cherry to win, and even they scored it for Douglas, that should tell everything you need to know.

 

Did they switch April Fools Day to the 4th and not tell anyone but Al Haymon?

 

I gotta say, this is the first time in a while that I'm truly perplexed as to why these robberies even took place.

Cherry didn't do quite enough to outright beat Pedraza IMO, there were a lot of close rounds in that match, it could have been anywhere from 115-113 either way or a draw. Regardless, its not like the result of that match was a scandal to rival Peteson-Diaz or Obara-Castillo that year, and even those robberies didn't get the attention they deserved.

So last year he came back and in my opinion lost almost every round of his match against Haskell Rhodes, and they robbed poor Lydell brutally with lopsided scores in favor of Cherry, who isn't even close to a draw, but fine they made up for the Pedraza Non-Robbery by robbing Rhodes. In theory, shouldn't that be enough? A fake robbery for a real robbery? So then tonight I thought surely Cherry would give Douglas everything he could handle and make it close, maybe not doing quite enough to outright win, but enough to merit a SD, and since it was held near Douglas' home state, and nowhere near Cherry's, I thought certainly they would hand over any close match to Omar.

But what happened? Omar Douglas legit beat Cherry, and it wasn't even close, 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93 are all fine scores for Douglas, Cherry didn't win any one round decisively, he may have two or three, but even that's debatable.

And then they robbed the young talented fighter with a decent upside, after he's coming off of a debatable loss to Fortuna, a match that itself was drawish, and handed yet another gift to Edner Cherry, who at this point is nothing but a glorified gatekeeper, and too old to be competitive with most of the young guns in the division.

Usually you always have to worry that the old guy who's brought in to give the young guy a stern test, and he ends up schooling the young buck, that he'll get robbed. Tonight it was the bizarro world version of that, the young buck passed the test decisively and he was punished for it. What the ****?

And in the opening match Ryan Kielczweski who's in theory the younger prospect and the marquee fighter, beat De Alba, a decent local journeyman 6-2, and he ended up losing 6-2x2 and 7-1 IIRC. Truly a peculiar night.

This was the single worse night of judging on one card I've seen in quite sometime, there really needs to be an investigation into Haymon, but at this point that statement is redundant.
