You don't often hear mention of the padre of both "Mikey" & "Robert" (aka Miguel Ángel García Cortéz and Roberto García Cortéz) when discussing recent great coaches. Even before the pair of American born sons made their respective marks on the sport - with the former debuting in 2006 and the his older brother, nicknamed "Grandpa", retiring from the pros and taking up the reins of training fighters himself - Eduardo had guided the both the latter and their fellow Oxnard native Fernando Javier "El Feroz" Vargas (both in 1998, in the span of ten months).

All in all, Eduardo had a hand - as either chief second of member of the corner team at La Colonia Boxing Club, taking more of a backseat to Roberto in old age - in the championship successes of Vargas, the García bros, Victor Ortíz, Brandon Ríos, Mia St. John, and Brian Viloria.

Here's a panegyric to him penned by none other than Mikey himself, back in 2018:

He's obviously behind the likes of Arturo "Cuyo" Hernández, Ignacio "Nacho" Beristáin, and Falleció Rodolfo “Rudy” Pérez- but could arguably be duking it out with, say, a Roberto Alcazar for a spot on the Mt. Rushmore of Mexican entrenadores.

I can tell, you this....for a long time, in boxing circles, it is widely known and acknowledged that, when you go to Riverside to work with the Garcia boxing program, it isn't because of Roberto.
