We had a big punching fighter in the UK when I was a kid called called Pat The black flash Barrett he seemed to wait ages for a title shot and when he did he fought a guy called Manning Galloway who was a bit of an untidy fighter from memory. Anyone fill me in on the fella, any stories, was he good, who did be resemble etc
Pat the flash was a big puncher and fight with Chavez was talked about but never happened which was probably a good thing for Pat!! Manning Galloway was a good boxer hard to hit and crafty upset a lot of prospects including Pat if I remember correctly.
He was very slick and had the ability to shut down the opponent while putting fans to sleep. Hence the nickname " The Spoiler." Thrown in tough early and learned on the job without taking much punishment. Finally won and defended the WBO title at an advanced age after being a pro 15 years . Still good enough at over 40 to spoil the rise of forner Olympic medalist Ricardo Williams.
Saad summed it up well. I remember seeing him lose a fast paced decision to then streaking Nino LaRocca and thought he had upside. He bounced between fighting on smaller shows in Ohio around his hometown and bouncing out between Los Angeles and Europe. A real world traveler. His WBO title run was pretty obscure and totally unexpected, but a pleasant underdog story. He defended against some fringe contenders and hopefully made some money. He was a very smart fighter who took good care of himself physically and could go 12 rounds without blinking. Hope he made some money and came out good in the end.
