Only just watched a couple of his fights, looks like a good fighter and I love the way he fights off the ropes Can anyone tell me a bit about him and is there any must see performances? Thanks
Excellent fighter. Very rugged, solid power, reliable chin, and quite versatile. I rate his victories over Ahmuda highly, given Ahmuda's bogus draw with Bob Foster (albiet, a faded Foster, but, Bob Foster nonetheless). Its interesting to note that Galindez retired as a result of two detached retinas. One wonders how long he fought with the condition, and how eye trouble might have affected the performances later in his career. I think at the end of the day Victor got burned out from a lot of tough fights in a row, which is the only explanation for how a brilliant hall of famer could lose to Mike Rossman.
brilliant fighter. strange that he achieved more over his career than conteh but i don't think he'd have ver beaten him in the ring.
I don't think he did. Also, Conteh had terrible hands so Galindez was able to rack up a few more. Saad>The pair of 'em.
Past-prime one-handed Conteh schooled prime Saad.:tong Anyway, Calzaghe beats Galindez, Conteh and Saad easily. Stops Foster too.
I used to think that Conteh was better than Galindez, but I've long since changed my mind. He was fiercely determined when it was a major fight..nationalistic machismo pride drove him on to be better than he was against more routine opponents that he got all those close decisions over...like vs Rossman in their rematch (and he was past it by then really)...and the way he dominated the oh so good Ahumada. He was a strong, clever, dangerous counterpuncher and hwas rugged with endless stamina. he would have been all fired up vs Conteh and would have beaten him by a decision IMO. Galindez always fought to the level of his opposition. Galindez was interesting in that he won the title originally from Len Hutchins and brutallized the guy so bad that he sent him to the hospital, yet he reverted most unexpectedly into a strict counterpuncher who would fight off the ropes most effectively with those wide counterpunches all night.
Conteh's not greater than Galindez. But he's at least as good as Galindez as far as H2H is concerned.
It would have been a good, close fight, but i believe that galindez would have edged Conteh. Hell, Ahumada was tough enough for Conteh...Galindez would have been more so.
I've got no problem with anyone picking Galindez here. 50/50 fight for me. Although maybe Conteh struggled so bad with Ahumada who was a good experienced fighter himself cuz he has never faced an argentinian rough aggressive akward type of fighter before? Maybe this fight was a good preparation for Galindez?
Conteh was an excellent fighter and I take nothing away from him..I just think that a bout between them..lets say in '75..would have been a prime Galindez narrowly coming on top and again, by a 15 round decision. Galaindez owned Ahumada for the better part of their series and I think he would have been pumped up for Conteh..nationalistic pride would have made a big difference.
One of my favorites, he had an interesting style, could brawl and could box well too, watch the first fight with Kates, it´s truly epic !
:dealVic, it was life and death there before the end..this is an example of prime Galindez turning it on when the chips are down.
