Everyone has pretty much summed up everything that was special about him already in this thread. Another fight he had that I thought was interesting stylistically was his fight against his good friend Ike Quartey. Both of those guys were getting on in there careers and were looking for a payday especially Ike who had just been robbed against Vernon Forrest. Both guys knew each other from the Flordia gyms when they were starting out as pro's and both fought behind a high guard and had amazing jabs. The fight wasn't as good as it would have been 5 or 6 years earlier at 154 but it was still a fun one to watch between two of the most badass guys from that era. Winky was definitely deserving of the hall of fame and I still think Ike was talented enough to get in but his long layoffs and not winning those signature fights will keep him out.
The man could jab his booty off...i rarely RARELY saw him get discouraged he just stuck the course ...lived by his game died by his game..although i will admit he did more living...mano was a solid top 15 154 pounder...his jab should be on alot of top 100 jabs of all time... His high guard was solid..made him look like a tank ...but i believe his jab was his best defense...id see guys go to do their thing..then pop pop pop..theyd have to reset from scratch ... I liked ol winky
When Wright was young, he just wasn't a plod forward behind the high guard and jab type of guy. He actually had a full offensive arsenal of punches. I thought he should have gotten the nod against Harry Simon. Wright's offense was much more dynamic in that fight, than it was in his fights later against Mosely, Trinidad etc.
GOSH DARN IT!!!! Thanks to someone named Balakhontsev, they felt so compelled to edit the punch, enjoy!!! This content is protected
