Chambers is off course no bum. He simply does not have the size and tools to beat Wladimir. Though i think he wouldn´t beat Vitaly, my guess is that it would be a much more competitive fight. Against any other heavyweight not named Klitschko he has at least a 50/50 chance. Klitschkos won´t hold all the belts forever and then Eddies time could come, if he is able to come back after this defeat.
True....... Considering how sorry 80% of the heavyweight division is in 2010, Edwardo Chambs still has a chance at beatimg some new kids on the block if he chooses to remain at 209 pounds and above..... Peace....... MR.BILL
Chambers is a good fighter. Just a bad match up for him. He just doesn't have the tools to beat Wlad.
Why not, he has the perfect size and weight for it. Is fast, resonable chin... I'd think he would do fine in any era. He wouldn't be able to defeat the bests, but now he doesn't either.
Someone was comparing him to Zora Folley, and I think that's the kind of fighter he is. He would definitely have been a top 15 heavyweight or better back then. I could see him fighting on even terms with Thad Spencer or Floyd Patterson. Plus, they were lighter back then, and few were as tall as Wlad or Vitali.
It's not about Chamber's size. It's about his style and the physical and mental assets he brought to the fight. If you look at Chamber's realistically, he's a guy who doesn't put combinations together, doesn't move his head when he punches, and he has very little power. On the slight occasions when Chambers DOES move his head, he ducks, but he doesn't move foward when he ducks, and isn't a good position to counter. And who has Chamber's beat? A tall zombie that only got recognition because of he happened to be a tall zombie? This is the same guy that showed a very distinct lack of versatility against Povektin, who in himself is a very flawed, very ordinary fighter. Povetkin is a guy that doesn't punch hard, moves in straight lines, doesn't bend at the waist, stands straight up, and has very poruous defense. He managed to beat Chambers merely because he was better conditioned and threw a higher volume of punches. The only viable thread to Klitschko is Haye and his brother Vitali.
I agree with Mr. HU on some levels. Ali would easily outbox this guy. Frazier would knock him out early. In fact, if you go back to the fifties, he's a sitting target for Marciano, Walcott would clown him, Charles would make him look like an amateur, and don't get me started about what Joe Louis would do to him. He just doesn't have any assets that make him a formidable fighter aside from his speed. But what's speed without footwork or the style to get your punches off when your opponent misses. Watching him against Povetkin, I saw two guys with little movement playing a game of you punch and I hold up my gaurd, then you punch and I hold up my guard.
Good thing you opted to post this in the general forum and not in the classic.. Janitor would have attacked that comment like a moth bouncing off of a kitchen light.
Perhaps not in the elite ranks, but I can certainly see him as being a respectable contender in any of those decades.
