Edwin Rosario vs Julio Cesar Chavez? If their fight wasn't prime for prime, I think it was close to it. They fought in 87. Rosario blew away Bramble and arguably beat Camacho in 86. On his best day I don't think he could beat Chavez. Rosario wasn't a great in fighter and often fought with his elbows out, exposing his sides. Chavez ravaged him to the body. I don't think he knocks out Chavez and Rosario didn't have a punishing jab to make Chavez pay coming in. I just don't think he could keep Chavez off him at any stage in his career. At best he'd survive to lose a clear decision.
It's Rosario vs Castillo isn't it? Rosario was a better boxer and puncher than Chico, overall superior. I'd take him to stop Castillo in either the 8th or 9th round, maybe sooner.
My bad. Reading comprehension isn't there tonight. I saw Chico and in my mind read Chapo. Anyway, I'd take Rosario. If he didn't stop him I think he land enough heavy punches to rack up enough rounds for a decision,
I thought it was about Rosario and Chavez too at first. But Rosario was still pretty much in his prime when they met and the fight was so one-sided that there isn't much need for a thread about the two at their best, because we all saw what happened (or would have it Rosario was just slightly past his peak). BTW, I can't see Castillo standing up to the bombs Rosario would be landing. He wouldn't have chosen to fight on the inside pretty much all night like Corralles did, and most likely would be well ahead when the stoppage came.
I'd take Rosario in about a 6th or 7th round stoppage due to his speed and power, but if it goes into the later rounds I think Castillo can take it. Rosario didn't have the best stamina and as has been said, was very open to body punishment. I think we'd see different results to this one if they fought several times. Castillo's chin was rock, and it's not at all inconceivable that he could absorb Edwin's punches and work him over for a late round points win or even stoppage. I wouldn't favour either of the latter two scenarios, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.
I rate JLC as one of the best lightweights of his time. But the Soto and Corrales fights showed that Castillo certainly did have a dentable chin. Rosario would be to quick and powerful like already mentioned. I think he damages the slow staring Castillo to much for him to come back.
Different styles. Castillo could take Floyd's shots and bully him into the ropes often. Against Rosario he couldn't afford to risk taking too many shots and might not be physically stronger than Chapo, where as he had about a 10lbs weight advantage on PBF in their first fight. Still, while I personally gave it to Castillo, it wasn't a blantant robbery, and of course he won a clear (although competitive) decision in the rematch. All said, Rosario at his peak could pull it off, but I would definitely favor Mayweather to beat him.
Castillo was a very good fighter. Strong, tough as nails, heavy handed... but he's too hittable to beat Chapo. Rosario stops him in about 7-8 rounds.
Castillo is going to be coming in putting on the pressure but he aint as skilled as Chavez, he is going to be in hitting range and is going to be getting hit by Rosario. Rosario for me has the speed and power to really let his shots go on Castillo and has the manueverability to stay of the ropes and away from corners to maximise his punching. I see Rosario KOing Castillo in the mid rounds
