I love Chapo and dislike Gomez (one of the dirtiest ATGs in recent memory) but Gomez was clearly the better and far greater fighter. Rosario is probably closer to Cotto or LaPorte than Gomez. Smooth fighter who moved gracefully and had excellent balance but at the end of the day he was basically a power-punching slugger. Gomez was more of the complete package--could do it inside, slug it out at midrange, or fight off his back foot and control distance like he did at times against Lupe Pintor. More disciplined and consistent too, and a brutal body puncher, unlike Rosario.

Rosario couldn't dig to the body? Huh. I guess I must of wrongfully assumed that he did. I thought he was a competent body puncher.

Do you feel that Gomez was as dirty as, say, Pedroza, or for a later example a Golota type fighter?

You brought up several Puerto Rican greats, how about Wilfredo Vasquez Sr? I personally think that he should clearly be ranked well above well groomed and matched fighters from PR like Miguel Cotto... Surely he accomplished more than Cotto did.

Rosario most certainly *could* dig to the body, but in the fights I've seen, Gomez did it more impressively.

Gomez threw tons of low blows, and in some fights head butted and threw flagrant punches on the break. Never got called on any of it either. I'd say he was dirtier than Golota. I've heard a lot of stories about Pedroza but to be honest I'm not sure that I've seen (m)any of his fights. Any you'd care to recommend?

Haven't seen all that much Vasquez but I remember thinking that he reminded me of Rosario in his fight against Mullin. My impression was that Rosario was a better fighter though--or at least that he had greater overall talent and abilities.

Rosario abuse started after he won the WBC LW title. While he took 10 months recuperating from a wrist injury Rosario hit the party circuit and lived the life of a celebrity. Rosario didn't handle the distractions that came
with fame and that's why his career was so hot and cold.
