You hold Rosario in that much higher a regard than Ramirez?

Do you just consider Ramirez something of a prototypical, tough, solid hitting Mexican fighter with no real frills?

Prototypical, tough, no frills and solid hitting seemed to do the trick vs an unrealized Edwin Rosario. He looked sooo good early on, as shown in those vids you posted...and add this one, the "Battle of the Edwins"...

shake, and stir, and you've got to wonder,...to quote Hillary Clinton's book title..."Wha' happened?" Rosario fell in love with his power unfortunately...and that's why Ramirez was able to conquer him...IMO.

I think Ramirez might have had the kind of chin only a few fighters a generation per weight class are gifted with. Truly seemed to have a cement head, only ever felled in over a hundred career bouts by a body shot while young against an experienced but still lethal Ruben Olivares... You can't ask for a better asset to even a battle against a puncher than a chin like that man had.

Yes, I agree...and as an aside, that Olivares ko of Ramirez intrigues and impresses me no end, doesn't it you?

It seems that Olivares was like an old Dempsey at that point...still lethal...like an old rattlesnake.

I would give a finger to have footage of that bout... Imagine how precise and powerful a body punch it must have been to literally force a man as tough as Ramirez from getting up... It must have been surgical and devastating. It's really not that surprising when step back you look at Olivares' record around the time and realize he was still good enough to batter the likes of other young up and coming fighters like Bobby Chacon.

I really do find it remarkable how Olivares, such a small fighter in comparison to some of the men he defeated, was able to have such devastating effects against fighters who moved up to around lightweight and were never again nearly as badly damaged as they were against the diminutive Olivares...

This caps off all of the lesser seen/previously unavailable on the net footage of Rosario that I have. Would have included all these links into the first post to streamline the thread but you can only have a maximum of 5 media links in one post. Sucks. Anyway...

Included is a Puerto Rican news broadcast in Spanish in memory of Rosario shortly after his death. I've also included his final career bout.

Bump. A small treasure trove of footage here for anyone that might be searching for Rosario footage or information.

    The threads we need.

Some great footage here Russel. Shame Chapo wasted his potential, though. I guess it happens.

We ARE in the wasteland of Mad Max. The only difference is it was nuclear proliferation but DRUGS which destroyed the world. I love watching Rosario s career set and especially in his early fights, seeing crushing KOs. He took all the braggadocio, confidence and heart right out of Bramble and made him quit on the floor in 2 rds. Destroyed Machos career also.

Rosario's opponent James Martinez, was a great amateur fighter, but did very little in the pros.

My friend (and Curtis Cokes manager), Doug Lord (r.i.p.), managed James Martinez too.
Doug told me Martinez liked the "cervezas" too much.....and Doug was always having to drag
Martinez out of bars to train.....or before fights.
