If it weren't for his drug problems, how good do you think he could have been. I have talked with a couple of people who believe that he could've been one of the best if not THE best Puerto Rican fighters ever.
Good. The common answer is that he fell in love with his power which caused problems. Early on, especially vs. Viruet he was almost similar to Rafael Marquez as a patent, very competent boxer who worked openings behind the jab before striking with the lethal right hand. Once he abandoned that approach he really wasn't able to handle pressure fighters as evidenced twice against Ramirez and then Chavez. I remember when he fought for his third lightweight title versus either Anthony Jones or Johnny Duplesis (can't remember which) he looked SHOT at 26. He was very very stiff and wooden and was looking bad until he landed his one shot. The grueling fights with Ramirez Chavez and Camacho took a lot out of the guy plus the drug abuse. That said, his wins over Elizondo and Bramble were pure murder.
Thank you. Yeah i've heard that his win over Bramble was amazing. You mentioned his win over Viruet, but can you recomend some other fights where he boxed very well before falling in love with his power?
