No. As much as I like Chapo he’d simply be overmatched with Ortiz who was a masterful boxer. A complete fighter. I imagine Ortiz dominates and stops him late though it’s possible Chapo can get an early knockdown due to his freakish power.
Big fan of Chapo. Really liked his foot work. Hes from my generation and that always makes it a little more personal sometimes but hes outclassed here. Who knows what he could have been if it weren't for his drug addiction that seemed to start earlier than initially thought but that's besides the point. Ortiz stops him sometime after the 10th me thinks
I think the earlier career Rosario before he became more of an out and out puncher would possibly be competitive early on and give Ortiz something to think about. He was a talented boxer-puncher no doubt. But Ortiz would eventually overrun and dominate him, probably from the mid rounds onward culminating in a stoppage some time after the 10th. Like a slightly more competitive version of the Battling Torres fight I reckon and probably not too dissimilar to the Chavez one, though I could see Ortiz being more cautious than Chavez early doors. Fencing a bit with his jab and weighing Chapo up before he gradually started stepping in with heavy overhand rights and clubbing hooks in combination with some rough-housing and close -range blows inside Rosario's comfort zone. Driving him back and wearing him out.
Tin, the Battling Torres fight was one of the first I thought about too. That and Ortiz' fight with Len Matthews. He had so many more facets than these big sluggers. He would break them down first before going for the kill. He would sample some of Rosaio's right hands, but he could handle them.

Hi scar, the Matthews fight is a good comparison also, I didn't think of it to be honest. One of the most brutal finishes I've seen; a ref allowing it these days would've been hung out to dry. Ortiz was an awesome combination puncher though.
I love watching Ortiz vs Battling Torres. Truly a clinic on how to breakdown an aggressive puncher. Ortiz's jab was beautiful... one of the best I've ever seen. And he murdered Torres to the body while outboxing him, which is what set up the eventual finish. Great performance.
Ortiz always credited Mathews as being one of his toughest opponents but the only footage I have is Ortiz tearing him apart. Is there a full version of this fight somewhere? I’d love to see it. Ortiz is one of my favorites ever. Those 60s/early 70s guys Jofre, Ortiz, Rodriguez, Napoles, Olivares I can watch and talk about all day.
