O' Grady had fighting heart but not durability. Rosario like Ganigan was all wrong for the Bubble Gum Kid. Similar to Rosario vs Bramble with a early night for the Kid.
The Ganigan comparison is a good one. Again with Rosario fight speculation, it's not that he's THAT much better than O'Grady, but Sean was there to be hit, and didn't have the durability of someone like Ramirez to shake it off.
I remember it was mentioned that O’Grady turned pro just before he turned 16 and when he first challenged for a world title against the underrated Jim Watt in 1980, he was only 21 yet had already had unbelievably over 70 fights by then with only 1 loss against future featherweight champion, Danny ‘little Red’ Lopez who probably the only really recognised fighter on Sean’s record.
Sean was 18 years old for the Danny Lopez fight. Sean was 28-0 and moving up from Bantam/Super-Bantam weight to Featherweight. Lopez was 28-3, a full featherweight, with recent fights against Ruben Olivares, Chucho Castillo, Octavio Gomez, Shig Fukuyama, Bobby Chacon, etc. "Give that kid five years and he's going to be an excellent fighter." -Danny Lopez Historical note re: Papa Pat O' Grady's "matchmaking": 1975-07-01 : Sean O'Grady beat Simmie Black by KO at 1:35 in round 4 of 10 Location: Red Carpet Inn, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Black admitted to taking a dive in this fight and also admitted to fighting O'Grady at least another 3-4 times under assumed names. 1976-02-25 : Danny Lopez 126 lbs beat Sean O'Grady 123 lbs by RTD at 3:00 in round 4 of 10 Location: Forum, Inglewood, California, USA Referee: John Thomas O'Grady's corner stopped the bout after the 4th round. "Danny Lopez had reason to smile Wednesday night after scoring a TKO over previously unbeaten Sean O'Grady. The win moved Lopez closer to a world featherweight title shot at Ghana's David Kotey. O'Grady employed a hit and run tactic during the first round and obviously got the upper hand. But by his own admission, he blew it because he got eager. The 18 year old O'Grady was stopped by a series of combinations to the body after Lopez took control of the fight in the 3rd round. Lopez punched away at O'Grady's body and chased him around the ring. Neither fighter was knocked down but Pat O'Grady, Sean's manager and father, waved a halt to the scheduled 10 rounder after Lopez stunned the 18 year old with combinations near the end of the 4th." -United Press International Two other 10 rounders on this card featured Bobby Chacon against David Sotelo and Lupe Pintor against Albert Davila. Post fight comment "Give that kid five years and he's going to be an excellent fighter." -Danny Lopez
O'Grady of the Kenty fight beats later period drug addicted Rosario. Any other versions of these two, Rosario wins.
Hard to see Sean the guy getting his hand raised in this. I also think the punches from Edwin would bust him up. And knock him down. You really have to dig a little to come up with lightweight champs O'grady was going to handle back then. But there were some exciting bouts to make, just not too many benefitting Sean. But he would give his all in defeat, but another 2 or 3 ko losses sure do not help his cause
