I think prospect is underrating Valero a bit. Yes competition is very important, but it's not the whole story. I've seen Valero twice on tv and have checked him out on youtube... Last night he looked sharp, and that right hook he landed on Pitalua reminded me of Juanma's right hook on Figueroa (I think that's the name of the guy he fought after Ponce De Leon). I personally think he beats Katsidis, but would love to see the fight anyways, and I'd also like to see Valero against the top guys of the division to see how good he really is against the elites.
A young fighter who goes to the champion's backyward and takes his belt is no longer a prospect. He's bonafide contender.
why would you say that?? How is anybody a Valero nuthugger, and how you gonna say Katsids kills him when he gets hit more then almost anybody in the light weight division??? I bet you wouldnt put no money on Katsidis if he fought Valero, most of you guys online is all talk but no action. I'll put a $1000 on Valero to sleep Katdisis
At this point, Valero is still isn't the finished product and I certainly wouldn't pick him to beat the upper echelon fighters like JMM and Pac, but there's a lot going for him, and while Pitalua and Mosquera aren't great, they were still legitimate contenders when they faced El Inca. He's developed past the point where we should label him as "prospect" is all I'm saying. Personally, I'd be interested to see how he fares against Katsidis or Diaz. Even if he doesn't win, they would make for entertaining fights for as long as they last.
Katsidis or Diaz would be a perfect step up in competition for Valero.. He hasn't fought anybody on that level yet.. He has potential to beat both though.. Just think he needs to step up the competition before you put him in there with the super elite fighters..
Fighting Diaz would be a proper step up in class but KAtsidis is a step back.. Now that he has MOsquera and Pitalua on his record, it's time for the big guns... Not katsidis..
Keep in mind that Katsidis' only 2 losses where from the TOP of the division. Juan Diaz and Joel Casamayor. A level of competition Valero has YET to face. And frankly those 2 would beat Edwin as well. Also keep in mind that Katz was winning the fight against Joel if not for the lucky punch. Not bad for someone very limited and who "gets hit more than anyone else in the LW division" eh?. The logic that Katsidis is not on Valero's level is unfounded and laughable. Some of you say nobody's hyping Valero up? Wake up, he IS being hyped a little too much. Stop kidding yourselves. That said, I don't agree with the threadstarter labeling Edwin a prospect. He's clearly past that level. He's a good fighter. But that's it. I'm not gonna get caught in the hype and say he beats ANY of the top fighters at 135 and 140. He's good but nothing else. Katsidis IS a BIG step up from him, and I will give Valero HUGE credit if he beats him.
