Absolutely right. There's no way he behaved the way he did without some sort of emotional and psychological issues. He was due to be treated for substance abuse, he had a history of violence out of the ring, he was clearly a very unhappy man. It's tragic. His wife was lost because no one could do anything to protect her, he was lost because no one stepped in to save him from himself. It's a disaster all round. it doesn't diminish his excellent performance against DeMarco. It doesn't make him less of a fighter. It just makes him someone to be pitied as much as reviled.
spot on, there should be no question that he loved his wife and his kids, his actions are not that of a sane man:good
Sorry mate, but if this was just your average Joe Blow from down the road people would be calling for the hangman. His mental condition shouldn't lessen what he has done, and certainly shouldn't be used as an excuse (the Yorkshire Ripper or Myra Hindley were probably mentally ill), and if he did love his wife then he had a strange way of showing it.
He probably suffered brain damage from the bike accident, and furthered it boxing, no glimmer of saneness in his activities.
The subdural haemotoma he suffered in the accident COULD have led to his alcohol abuse and symptoms of it do include irritabilty and disorientation (was confused in the health facilty after he alledgedly assaulted his wife prior to the 2 further tragedies) but to suggest it was solely responsible is absurd after all his conscious abilty and mental state was deemed good enough for him to earn his living. Barry McGuigan suffered a S H he didnt kill anyone. Think it should be left as it is, a horrific sad tale of a broken family, wasted life and ability
****ing shocking news about his wife and him hes been going off the rails for along time to be honest im not surprised
Im not using it as an excuse, im saying people should not criticize something they dont understand, i think its sad that his kids will grow up with no parents and Valero's wife died a horrible death, Valero's death is a sign of him feeling trapped emotionly with no way out, its also sad that valero didnt get the help he so clearly needed sooner:good
it doesn't excuse it, but it doesn't make him a venal scumbag either. it's just a horrible, horrible turn of events. He did something heinous. He did it because he was mentally damaged - you think he chose to behave in a way that clearly made him unhappy? Picking two serial killers (both mentally disturbed by most psychological accounts) in Hindley and Sutcliffe is crass. Neither of them had relationships with their victims, they were purely sociopathic. The act of a disturbed young man, potentially with brain damage and a history of substance abuse, does not compare to a sustained campaign of violence by unhinged and vicious killers. Mrs Valero probably loved her husband and felt powerless to help him. It's just a sick, sad tragedy for all involved.
