How strictly do you rate MSTR? I rate pretty strictly, and you basically have to be elite, as in possibly top 10 P4P or at least best in your class(this can apply to ability over accomplishments as well), to be considered truly A level. B level fighters are those below that class, in either talent or whatever other criteria. I don't rate Valero highly among the titlists, I don't rate him highly in terms of competition, and I certainly don't rate him highly in terms of skill, therefore, I wouldn't even consider him B level. Those are the types of fighters, and usually not that extreme, but to emphasize his lack of potential, that rate at C level and below for me.
Valero is too unproven to be rated properly. It is very hard at this point. He has been dominant in every fight so far though. "A" level for me, are either elite fighters (A level) or guys who are in top tiers of their respective division (A - level). B level are guys who are world class fighters (can be competitve against the top level guys), yet not capable of beating the elite fighters. C level for me are upper end of the journeyman... Guys with a few losses, though who can still provided a competitive fight for upcoming prospects, or for B level fighters. On my scale, Valero is a B+ fighter. In the current division he is one of the top guys, as most have moved up. Also the way he has dominated his opponents, regardless of how limited. He still has yet to be proven one way or the other, so it really isn't fair to judge him higher IMO. Jimenez is a B fighter. A solid guy, definitely can compete with the top guys in the division, although not capable of beating them. Mosquera is a B-/B level figher. Clearly world class, with some decent wins. Capable of being competitive, although not beating the top guys. One thing that i have learnt over the past year, is that not every fighter can be judged on how slick they look. Some guys are going to look rough, but can prove to be much more effective. Examples of this are Pavlik, Vasquez, Glen Johnson etc etc... I truely believe that Valero could be one of these guys in time. A fighter who makes mistakes (much like Pac does) yet could still be difficult to fight. A guy who can MAKE you fight his fight. I think overall, you guys are under rating him, although he needs to be tested further before any sort of proper rating can be developed IMO.
Top p4p fighters are A+. Mayweather, Cotto, Calzaghe, Marquez (although getting old) and Pac are A+ level fighers at the moment. Guys like Mijares and Guzman, Kessler maybe even Dawson are A level that could very well become A+ fighters in the not too distant future. They need to be more proven first. Pavlik, Hopkins, Haye, Taylor, Winky, Oscar, Vasquez, R Marquez, Calderon, Wlad etc etc etc are all A level fighter now IMO, although some are slipping down do the lower end. A minus level guys are Juan Diaz, Nate Campbell, Montiel, Malignaggi, Povetkin, Williams, Margarito, Hatton etc etc etc... B+ level guys are Gamboa (still too unproven) Valero (same) or fighters IMO who have beaten B level guys, but still haven't taken on A class opponents yet. That is my take anyway. I should expand further but i need to get some work done.
And who'd ya learn that one from? Well I have to disagree with you on Valero, as I don't see him on that level skill-wise at all.
I consider Gamboa to be A level based on talent and potential, as I said was a certain criteria. I also consider Mijares to be A+ level as is.
hahaha, yes you did play a big part in that one. Also though i am very stubborn, and need to learn these things myself. Seeing fights like Dawson v Johnson, Pac v Marquez, Vasquez v Marquez etc etc etc has really stuck out to me in recent times. I can see much more now though, how guys like Monzon who to watch seem limited, are great fighters through their elite level intangibles. However i see what you are saying with Valero, in that intangibles don't always mean winning ability (Gatti for example). I am not saying valero will be great. But i am not ready to write him off. His handspeed isn't that bad, and his power is obviously good. Most of all though, i can see that he is a fighter who will IMO use his intangibles (which are hard to measure admitably) against the top level guys as an equalizer to their superior skills. At this point, i think he is an interesting fighter. That is about as far as it goes.
I don't give A+ level so easily, i think they need to be well proven before i give that status, especially against different styles. One thing that seperates the best from the rest is their ability to adapt under pressure against top opponents. Guys like Cotto especially, Calzaghe as well stick out in my mind for doing this. Mijares needs to fight guys like Donaire and Montiel so he can prove he can do this. He certainly has A+ level ability though. Gamboa does poentially also IMO, although is even more unproven than Mijares by a fair way as well.
As long as you can punch and have power ... you stand the chance to knockout anyone. Valero KO mid rounds Gamboa
Would you pick Butterbean to knock out James Toney??? Just curious because Butterbean has a good punch, good power. What do you think the chances are and how do you think your answer is effected by your post here???

I think you mean supporter, the only fan Valero has here I can think of is Fitzgeralds. Most realise how limited he is and that he probably won't amount to anything.
