Anthony Peterson may have appeared to be more dangerous due his higher KO ratio, but Lamont Peterson has proved to be considerably the better boxer of the Peterson Bros. Anthony did not beat anyone decent prior to the Rio's fight, just bums and washed up veterans.
Rios wouldnt go down without a fight but I think its a bad match up for him. Valero by highlight reel KO in an exciting fight.
wow the vote is pretty lopsided. I mean. I pick valero to win also. But with scary rocky moments for Valero. You lot really do underrate the intangibles to Rios game. Hes a nasty pressure fighter and just relentless. But I agree, Valero not only had power, but he had straight shot speed, and actually had great ring generalship. People are docking Rios for going to war with Acosta, but the truth is - Acosta is a DAMN good fighter and if anything Rios stock should go up after that fight because its not like Acosta is a feather puncher, dude has POWER and Rios took it. I think a Valero/Rios fight is decided by the edge in skill that Valero does have over Rios moreso than just his power. I wouldn't rule out a late knock out for Valero though, as a result of well placed shots.
Valero was VERY quick though, pacquiao level speed. Left his chin in the air and all, but you can't deny his speed.
50/50 fight. Rios got durability/stamina and knows how to cut the ring off, while Valero have the advantage in speed/power/footwork and technique. If Valero fights smart using his better boxing skills and timing, he can catch Rios with something on exchanges because I noticed that Valero is really sneaky and powerful so if Rios makes a mistake it is bye bye. Now for Rios, his chance is if Valero gasses out, Rios will eventually wear him down a.k.a Margarito vs Cotto, but Valero also has amazing stamina and will not go backwards and will just fight forward. So since both fighters are come forward fighters, with Valero having the edge in timing/speed/power, I'm going with Valero on my 50/50 to win by timing KO.
one thing i noticed is that people underrate Rios' defense, yeah he got hit with a lot by acosta but if you watch the fight again notice Acosta didn't have success with straight punches, Rios blockedor parry'd all the straight punches so Acosta resorted to throwing punches from angles, over the top, uppercut from the side etc.
Rios was rolling with most of the shots Acosta landed and the ones that landed flush he shook off. He is one tough hombre.
Rios has a very good chin, he would be a difficult and dangerous for Valero. Imagine what someone like the Japanese fighter who went 7 or 9 rounds with Valero but with the punching power and relentlessness of Rios, could do to the late Edwin Valero.
