I think what RDJ is saying that if you are on a calorific deficit diet it doesn't matter as it's not EXTRA fat its just another source of energy. The fat wouldn't be stored as it would have to be used. Hence why some body builders go on ketogenic diets which are high in protein and fat and have no or little carbs. Despite the high fat content in their diet they still lose weight as they are on a calorific deficit. You talk about nutrients but why lose the most nutritious part of the egg?
It takes no extra effort to burn fat instead of protein when on a calorie deficit. And you can not get the same nutrients while avoiding saturated fats, as these nutrients are solved in fat.
So protein meal means a meal without fat, thanks for explaining this to me :nut That my friend is 100% bull****.
what is the point in having a protein meal if your going to have a whole lot of fat with it, defeating the purpose of preparing a protein meal, you may aswell eat mcdonalds if your going to have a fatty meal. that is 100% fact, natural fats are easier to burn of then saturated fats
Eating fat alongside of protein does not alter its use in any way so I would say the point of the meal would be the exact same as before, obtaining energy and nutrients. Now you are just making stuff up. Saturated fats vs. natural fats? Are you implying saturated fats are not natural? :nut
i know eating fat along side a protein meal does not alter its use, but why would a boxer or a body builder put extra fat into a meal when they can avoid the fat and if you have a diet that consists of so many eggs a day or week its prob best to avoid the saturated fat (yolk) because a diet high in saturated fat increases the risk of heart disease.
Because avoiding fat is not very smart especially when those fats are among the nutrient richest you can find on this planet. And again why wouldn't he eat the fat, he's on a calorie deficit anyway so it will be metabolized just like the protein. En egg is NOT high in saturated fat, nor does saturated fat cause heart disease in an active and healthy non obese person. Saturated fats are only a problem on weight gain, and when combined with a diet lacking (phyto) nutrients.
If you avoid the yolk because of its fat content, you should never eat salmon either as it contains a similar amount of saturates.
Ok this is getting rather semantic now. Some good points made here but the emphasis of my original point is when a BB makes weight. They MUST be on a calorie deficit. At this stage its not about nutritional value as they are loosing weight in excess sometimes of 50lbs. They will be on a Atkins type diet with mostly proteins and very little carbs. They cut out ALL fats. Doesnt matter wether there saturated or not they have no fats in their diets. They diet to a point that is close to catabolic. Remember the sport of BB is about look. NOT function. 9 times out of 10 there diet consists of baked chicken a small amount of starch and veg. And thats it for at least 2-3 months!
Hmmm I see your point as nutrition is clearly a secondary factor to the asthetics of body building. As I have said I am no bodybuilder and never would be with my 130lbs frame. That kind of diet would be my idea of absolute torture. After a month I think I would literally kill someone for a bagel. I know very little about catabolism but would a diet containing few nutrients and mineral be in any way a negative when looking to retain muscle mass? Why eat the side order of veg along side the baked chicken other than to get some vital nutrients, why not have purely protein based diet?
Thats exactly what it is. The get VERY ratty when making weight as there body is starved of vital nutrients and minerals. Plus it gets pretty boring eating the same meals day in day out. You cant just eat proteins on its own because they'd end up with severe constipation as well as high colesterol. They need the miniscule amounts of unsaturated fats carbs minerals and anti oxidents that Vegetables provide. And yes a diet containing few nutrients is extremely unhealthy for long periods of time. The key as always is balance. But when making weight they are trying to strip off fat and water retention to get the hardest possible look. The only way to do that is to put there bodies into near catabolic states. The less carbs the less glyogen stores. The less energy to feed there muscles. Come contest day there a mess mentally. Soon as the competition is over the first place they head is to the steak house for a slap up feed. Think of BB as much lighter form of anorexia.. :yep:blood
I still can't help wondering how those unnatural saturated fats ended up inside an egg. I'm also very curious where twoohands gets the nutrients that an egg contains in its yolk without consuming the fats, this miracle food I need to know of. I always thought that in order to get to fat soluble vitamins you'd have to eat fats. Perhaps I should ask an eskimo but they're all too busy dying of heart disease.
Eskimo's actually have a VERY high tolerance to Vitamin A found in the livers of the Polar bears. For the average man on the street the toxins in it would be too great. Interesting fact.
